The poor children today are not so lucky.... all the silly 'safety' rules.

Here's our school dinner recitation. The second verse is not for the faint-hearted.
Worms for breakfast, dinner and tea.
Nobody knows what they mean to me.

On worms three times a day.

A 'two ball 'game from my childhood ......reciting the following ...
Pk penny a packet, first you chew it , then you stick it on your jacket.. The rest I cannot remember ! :-) :-S

We did it as a skipping rhyme in the 60s. The last word was skipped 'pepper' (the rope going twice under one jump) so, packet packet the rope went twice under the rope for each word, then three times and so on until you were out

It was a clapping game we used to play. Another one we used to play which had actions for both hands and feet at the same time was Double Double. Every time we said double we would clap our own hands together whilst jumping on the spot. When we said this we would clap palms with our partner whilst jumping legs apart and when we said that we said that we would clap the back of our hands together with our partner whilst jumping cross legged. All this was done as fast as possible.
Double double this this.
Double double that that.

We also played things like helicopter with a skipping rope and also played BB and Red Rover. Red Rover was banned as a few kids broke their arms but we still played it anyway when the teachers weren't looking.

Joan...I was thinking of ...I'm a little girl guide...said it exactly as you did!
And the skipping one that Iris said ended in pepper was...salt ,mustard.vinegar ,pepper.

Hi Brenda, 'pepper' in my post is when the rope is turned really fast so that it goes under the feet twice during one jump.
I also remember a skipping game called high, low, Johnnie, pepper. You jumped to a fast rope saying this and then you had to skip thus depending which one you were 'out' on. If you landed on high then the rope was turned at about ten inches off the ground so you had to jump high. If low you had to crouch down and the rope hit the floor but turned at about two foot just scraping past your head. Johnnie was a swinging rope and you jumped side to side and pepper was a very fast skip.
I also used the same words for the girl guide in blue. :-)

...I only just noticed as well that Harry started the post with the one I put....senior moments,but it's nice to recall our youth and note that all these innocent games that have come down through earlier generations have died out since all this technology has evolved.

No problem at all Brenda, I had trouble describing what I meant. Haha! I've been teaching my grandchildren a few in the hope that there life won't be all about technology (says she, using her iPad with her laptop and mobile by her side)
So far they have 'Queenie o coco, who's got the ball' and 'Nebucanezer, the king of the Jews' under their belt :-)
