I think the reason is as to why people had problems last night is quite simple. The demand of people using GR was greater than the system could cope with.

If they had allowed free access to the records for let say 2 days, instead of 2hrs. Instead of everyone trying to use the records in over such a short period. Then after an initial spike, demand would have been spread over a longer time frame & not put as much pressure on GRs servers.

From FB

Genes Reunited
Last night the site had very high levels of demand during the free period. Thousands of our members took advantage of this free time, but some experienced difficulties. We pride ourselves in offering a great service &, whilst we extended the free time until 9pm, we feel frustrated that everyone wasn't able to take advantage of this. We apologise for these difficulties & are looking into why these issues arose.

Mildred is a smart cookie (sorry Mildred ;-)
The free bee offer overloaded the site which had a knock on effect on chat and general .. But this site is about geneaology .. not chat
I didn't see it cos I must admit to using Ancestry and other sites for my research but my impression of GR is it is here primarily for people to research their family tree .. chat and general are just an extra..

I'm back home on a fleeting visit (boiler packed up and needs repair), so thought I would pop in to wish you a 'Happy New Year' and everyone else I've spoken with too.

Hello Ice Ice, perhaps someone Did ask for it's removal. All I know was that people where remarking about how disappointed they were with last night's effort by GR. My remark, at the onset, was about my computer problems.

I said I do not like it - if you wish to use it that is your choice. However, being well educated does not necessarily mean well mannered.

"The sixth word in your post Amy, I find it disgusting and feel that no lady would use it"

______

Chris, I use that word,cr*p (altered to protect your eyes) so do a few of my friends (including well mannered teachers in the staff room)

I can assure you we are ladies (sometimes).but long gone are the ladies made famous from little Britain (I am a genteel delicate Lady type)

I know Amys posts annoy, but its a bit over the top to snipe about what in all honesty is a very mild curse.

Amy I thought when I saw I had posted same time as your SECOND post you would belittle yourself with such a reply. I also notice you did not disagree with me that no lady would use such a word.

Sorry JackInThe Box, that was not intentional I can assure you. Just a typing mistake.
Please pass on to Ron, that I am doing well with the 'Bird Of Paradise' plants. Many Thanks to him

No offence taken Julia:)))

BTW its JackInTheBox, not Jack in a box, unless you intend putting me in one lol :))))

Julia Report 1 Jan 2011 15:15

Jack in a Box. Have it your way. I will remember when I see this happen to someone else, refering to something that has happened. No offence was meant to you, nor is now, or to any other person.

Yes Julia we are all entitled to our opinion, but if a thread was whooshed by GR because of its contents, all this has done is drag it up again.
