Phew Im still here after a horrendous nite!! wind reached 116 mph locally and amazingly through thunder, lightening and all that ,the leccy stayed on, well in this part. Never slept a wink the noise was deafening.

However went to work today and the electric went off at 9.45 and still hadnt come on when we left. School shut so not sure about tomorrow just have to wait and see.

GG glad you survived without too much damage.

Its been snowing on and off all day here but more like powder yet that is now frozen on the roads. Tem was -1,5 degrees just now so freezing hard.

To those its heading down towards stay safe.

just heard several thousand people in great yarmouth are being evacuated due to storm surges along the east coast. Hope all will manage to find somewhere safe to stay.

Off to put on an open fire now
Take care

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 5 Dec 2013 16:15

It's pretty blustery here in Norwich and the wind is blowing hard across the field to the end of our garden where there is a scrappy hedge and some trees (a hazel and two conifers) Behind them the sky is darkening from blue/grey with pink areas, rather spooky. I have just closed the curtains to shut the night out, I hate this kind of weather and hope all is ok with my own house and roof etc. It shouldn't be too bad as it's more built up round there and a terraced house but it still bothers me.

O.h. went in the car to work today, I am not sure he'd have stayed on his bike especailly tonight if the weather gets worse.

I haven't seen any local news yet but there were weather warnings for the North Norfolk coast and beyond. Hope Yarmouth and other places don't get bad damage and people will be safe, we had floods in the past where many lives were lost, in Gt. Yarmouth and Sea Palling etc in 1953 for instance.

Much as I long to live by the coast I wouldn't want to be right by the sea unless I was in a very strong building with protection. More properties will probably be lost to the waves in some places, maybe Hemsby. Must watch evening news.

Take care everyone.

Roll on summer !

Here we go again. Storm 11 most of the day and all ferries cancelled. My lights are flickering on and off like a disco lol I have a little torch attatched to the waistband of my trousers so dont get caught out especially if im in the loo(it happened once before!)

It's supposed to die down overnite and then blow up again before moving southwards.

Anyone else up this way, hope you are all safe.

We had slates off and fences down last weekend, but this latest lot has not caused any more damage. Just tomorrow to get through - until the next lot.

I hope you're OK, Florence. On tonight's weather forecast the whole of Lewis was hidden under a wind arrow!! :-| :-| :-|

GlasgowLass Report 14 Dec 2013 22:48

Hi Florence,
We had gale force winds and driving rain around lunchtime but everything had calmed down by early evening.
I was out doing some Christmas shopping early this morning and I was soaked right through!

Keep that torch handy!
I remember one evening, we had a power outage. It was about 10yrs ago and OH was away on business.
I decided to gather up the kids and drive to my parents
My mobile phone had no power left and of course our completely cordless phones didn't work either.
My car was in our garage, and I remembered about a box kept in there too, containing an old plug in phone and some extra torches.
However, we also had electrically operated garage doors.

Plan B was to access the garage via a back door, get the phone and open the electric ones by a manual operation and drive the car out.
My plan failed!
II opened the rear door into the garage and couldn't take a single step inside.... the car was reversed in, right up to the back wall, completely blocking my entry!
Me and the girls had to sit it out in the dark with one torch until the power came back on.
I wil never make that mistake again.

I suppose it was a blessing in disguise..... for as soon as the power came on, I remembered exactly what I had been doing when it went out.
I was vaccuming.
Yes... the Dyson burst back into action with the restored electricity!

Oh GL what a nightmare. yes these little round torches are also magnetic but have a little hook so clipping them over a waistband is so handy.

i went to town also to do shopping at 9am. crikey it was rough and pouring hard. The town centre was really deserted, hardly surprising but i neede to finish off so i could get my familys parcel away down south on monday otherwise i would have stayed at home. Its a 60 mile round trip!!

The wind died down here too around 6pm but i can hear it agin beginning to get up, in fact its howling just as its been doing all day.

Hope you dont suffer any damage.
Take care of yourselves

Here we have had strong winds all morning and now it is driving rain. So glad I don't have to go out.

There was a submarine going round in circles on the Clyde this morning - I felt sorry for the sailors on the casing in that wind. :-( Even the local fishermen have stayed indoors!!

Florence61

Florence61 Report 15 Dec 2013 19:30

Well it did pick up earlier and reached 104 mph but leccy stayed on!
Gl we had some hail and sleety showers thrown in this afternoon too.

Andysmum poor sailers bet they felt squeemish going round and round!

Its a lot calmer now only around 40 i think(just a breeze now lol)

Forecast for the week is gales all through 50-60mph.

Thanks Ann for you kind thoughts and to everyone for thinking of me.

Good morning from the wild west lol

Wind is strong this morning and was up at 62mph earlier. Looks like we will escape the snow, but the inverness area I think are set for several cms. Do we have any members in this area?

The gales are set to continue through for a few days yet and turning colder.
Putting a nice coal and peat fire on just now to keep us cosy.

Anyone else got snow or gales today?

We had a freak mini tornado in Surrey / Hampshire / Suseex at tea time yesterday.

Brought down lots of fences and trees but only lasted a few minutes.

Just tipping down as usual today, no snow so far.

Keep warm.

We also had the mini tornado in Norfolk yesterday. We and several neighbours lost roof tiles, and a tree came down on the main road.

Wild, wet and windy here, but nothing too unusual and, so far, no damage.

I think storm chasers are people. I think they're mad, and, judging by the TV programmes, some are lucky to be alive!!
