Oh by the way, it wasn't my rear view after all. I came across the skirt in question yesterday pm and it has stitching detail on that is not on the tv film. O.h. says my posterior isn't that big lol

I noted her name with the intention of having a dig around :-D

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Jan 2014 07:05

In 1861 she was living with her parents, so doesn't seem to have been married despite her status in 1901. She was a milliner. Her father was a grocer.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 13 Jan 2014 07:00

She was a widowed "inmate" in 1901 in Yarmouth workhouse. Listed as a lunatic. She dies in 1912 but I can't see her in the 1911 census.

I found her on an earlier one, though. Poor woman.

Lyndi Report 13 Jan 2014 06:54

I didn't look at census records Guinevere, but did google her and read a transcription of the sampler. It is apparently at a local museum until beginning of March so i may well go and take a look :-)

I haven't done so but there was a lot on the radio about it so I am sure it raised loads of interest. What did you find?

I did have a look but there were so many people around it I couldn't see much. It made me sad tho, to see all the work gone into it and the story of the poor woman. She made it on pieces of scrap fabric apparently and joined it all up.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who delved into census records looking for Lorina Bulwer who made that sampler.

MMA sorry to hear about your injury and hope you will soon be mobile and out of pain. I don't get to Dereham much especially now my elderly friend and ex neighbour has died, I am not that friendly with her daughter in Toftwood, that I would visit. We went to Sheringham just over a week ago, all much the same altho I didn't walk to the prom. We use Dave's fish and chip shop in Co-operative street, do you? I bet if you are in Cromer you go to Mary Jane's.

Well, as for the show, my son said his gf thought she saw him in the background, but I couldn't spot him when I watched the recording. However, there was a short piece with Andy McConnell holding an oddly shaped glass and saying that there wasn't much support there. Just then a large denim clad rear end came into view with a dark blue top half and I am pretty sure that was me!!! At least the face wasn't shown so no one else will recognise me lol The skirt shows the little pockets on the side/front and I think I did pop my navy cardi on over my strappy top as it got a bit breezy. I was watching Andy with that glass, it was after he spoke about it that he looked at my son's glass vases. He told the chap off who brought it as it was full of dust, he made some comment about bringing washing up liquid to clean some of the exhibits.

It was interesting tho, and I would definitely go again if they came back to Norwich. I seem to remember Andy told my son the glass vases were spill vases but of course son didn't know what spills were, he was just that bit too young to remember making spill holders at school for Christmas pressies.
