There is an article on the BBC news site about the middle class. Part of this article is a test you can take to tell you what social class you fall in to.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am a member of the precariat, the lowest and poorest class of all and I might tell you, they look down on me as well!

Well I have always considered myself one of the downtrodden poor yet the BBC considers that I am part of "Established middle class" possibly because I play the saxaphone and like jazz. Jazz and respectability are strange bedfellows.

Maybe I should get out more and find the local branch of the wheeltappers and shunters.
;-)

It can't be that Rollo, because I listen to classical (it is sometimes in the adverts on the Jeremy Kyle Show) and I am still the lowest of the low.

What is the Jeremy Kyle show ? Is he a musician ?

Well,I don't know what I am !....Rollo what sort of jazz do you play?.
I play Dixieland/mainstream piano...although I am also into classics as have had lessons from age 7 on to 19 in classics and am LRAM ,,but my love in later life is jazz.
So...that makes me a mixture!!...know my star sign is Gemini ...so two sides...hmm .
All I know is that I am working class and always worked for my living.
Not had a privileged life!...but interesting!

My mum described those who lived in the so called better area of our town - that lot with fur coats and no drawers :-D

According to the article I am/was until retirement a member of the traditional working class - spot on I reckon :-)

I play modern jazz plus the usual standards and 1001 attempts to play Baker Street properly. I have a similar Yamaha alto sax to Dave Kozz but sadly don't play anywhere near as well :-(

I originally played keys which accounts for most of the damage to my poor Roland which has been gigged to often. The Roland and music software / hardware take up far too much of my time and office and contribute nothing towards paying the bills. OTOH much more fun than working lol.

fwiw my left arm got smashed up playing rugby and that was the end of playing keys left hand anyway ... I got quite adept at sort of leaping my good hand around ... I am left handed :-( Anyway the physio got me playing sax in an attempt to get my crabby left arm sorted and it worked. I got a saxaphone on the NHS + lessons wow!!! never these days I think. So that's how I became ambidextrous.

Apparently I am one of the elite and probably had a private education and went to university. Really?

My parents didn't have much spare cash and my mum went out cleaning. I was lucky enough to pass the 11+ and go to a good grammar school but it was a state school, not a private school, and I was one of the few there in a home made gym slip because mum couldn't afford the prices of the school shop. I do have a degree but I got it in my 40s through studying in my spare time with the OU.

It's half a crown to talk to me now I am one of the elite!

I'm apparently one of the 'Emergent Service Workers'.
So much for going to uni!

Just did it again - as I forgot my brother is an artist and I am friends with a solicitor and University Lecturer (I forgot what they were - I don't hve friends because of their occupation!)- but it made no difference :-(

As for Sharron saying she is a proletariat, how can she be when she has such a wide range of interests . . . AND a good brain?!
