Oh Margaret, that must have been scary! So glad the tree didn't hit your home. What a shame when a lovely old tree goes, you will miss it's presence.

Thank you Florence...... I must say We were rather shaken.... Looking at the damaged tree in daylight certainly concentrates the mind. The rings in the trunk look to be well over 100 so a mature specimen.

Anyone else had any similar experience yesterday?.

Margaret you were very lucky indeed. Not a nice experience im sure.

I think at these times we all have a guardian angel watching over, I know i do.

Wind started to pick up about3pm....... Thought nothing of it....Later,.. Talking to son on Skype who is in USA just after 5pm. heard this loud noise/Thud/howl type of thing. .. Son asked what had happened ( he could hear it over in Tx.)

Large Oak Tree had come down right across the road. ... Our guardian angel was with us.. When it fell If it had fallen to the left instead of right across the road it would have hit the house... Tree large enough to have done some serious damage to the front area and ourselves.... No damage to our property at all... !!!!!Few twigs scattered over the lawn... Also missed Electric/telephone wires..... Took nearly 5 hours for the contractors to clear Approx 11 pm to 3-45. Kept us awake most of the night...

Someone up there likes us...
