Mersey

Mersey Report 3 Feb 2014 13:25

He was in a film called Patch Adams with Robin Williams. I adored the film still do, makes me blub everytime..

Island

Island Report 3 Feb 2014 13:30

I haven't heard of him either. He was probably an 'actors actor' as he seems to be getting high praise from fellow luvvies.

It's sad that the public may only know him for the circumstances of his death. Three children :-|

JustJohn Report 3 Feb 2014 13:46

No, never heard of him. Am getting increasingly worried by all these celebrity programmes too. Most times I have absolutely no idea who they are. Old age does not come by itself :-( :-( :-(

Cynthia Report 3 Feb 2014 14:17

Oh good. I'm not the only one...... :-D

I was on FB when my niece posted about it followed closely by my son.....and I hadn't a clue who the poor chap was! Oviously a 'generation-al' thing.

I DID recognise John Hurt when he was interviewed though :-D :-D :-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 3 Feb 2014 14:42

I had not heard of him either, apparently he won an oscar for something (Not Hunger Games). As Joy said a waste of a life and how sad for his young children.

Mersey

Mersey Report 3 Feb 2014 14:43

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 3 Feb 2014 15:10

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 3 Feb 2014 15:16

I have to admit I had never heard of him, but seeing the glowing tributes from very credible people from show business and his personal life, he was a much respected actor and director and valued friend . So very sad to lose his life in this way, and a tragedy for his family.

Must admit when I heard this sad news I couldn't place his name, but after looking at Wiki I recognised him as being in some very good films. Notably 'Talented Mr. Ripley' and 'Scent of a woman'.
So sad for his family.

Mauatthecoast Report 3 Feb 2014 15:18

John Hurt is a fine British actor .....too many films to mention John....just Google and I'm sure you will have seen him many, many times.

Is it really possible that people go through their lives and have no idea who Truman Capote was or seeing this movie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Talented_Mr._Ripley_%28film%29

I got drunk with the guy (Hoffman) once in New York. He was a perfectionist and thought that Hollywood was mainly populated with idiots. Myself I find a discreet charm in the antics of the media industry.

If you want a good read try this:
In Cold Blood (Truman Capote)
In Cold Blood is a book copyrighted and serialized in 1965 and published in book form in 1966 by American author Truman Capote; it details the brutal 1959 murders of Herbert Clutter, a successful farmer in the American wheat belt. Avail on Kindle etc.

Is it National Tommy Osser day?
