I have lovely memories of my maternal grandad. He took me to Saltwell park on Saturday mornings, came to do the garden for my parents on Sunday mornings, and taught me to read from newspapers, so I could read by the time I went to school. I was devastated when he died from cancer, aged 53. He was a Dunkirk veteran, and my hero. RIP, Ernie Barr <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Ginnie

I adored my Grandad, he was such a tall man and every day that I stayed with him and Nan we would walk to the papershop for his paper and I could choose any choccy bar I wanted, which was always a Frys peppermint Cream or Minstrels.
When walking home he always put me on his shoulders so I could eat my treat. I
felt like I was on top of the world ........When we got home you could bet there was always melted chocolate on the top of his head.....he never moaned or grumbled he would just smile and wash his head with the flannel .......LOL

I miss my Grandad every day he was and is my hero...a very gentle man
with a heart so big and so strong...........He loved his children, he put them
first, would do anything for them, unconditional love , as well as his Grandchildren (Me and Sis's). Children remember and never forget <3 <3 <3

Im very very lucky we still have Nan with us....she is FAB !! <3 <3

That reminds me of when my girls were young and they would walk with my dad when we were on holiday, he had back problems which meant he walked quite slowly and they would walk either side of him chattering away.

Happy memories.

Walking With Grandad
**************************

I love to walk with Grandad
His steps are short like mine
He doesn't say "Now Hurry Up"
He always takes his time
Most people have to hurry
They do not stop and see
Im glad that I have Grandad
Unrushed and young like me
