Island Report 29 Apr 2014 12:08

I bet there's a few so called 'celebrities' who traded 'favours' to get their boozums on the 'famous for being famous' circuit.
How *does* somebody get a career with no discernible talent?

Hmmmm.....

Those who stand on a pedestal are easy prey to be toppled over. And It is tough work staying astride the moral high horse without a saddle.

Go on, admit it, how many also googled those two words :-D Yep, I did!!

Dermot

Dermot Report 29 Apr 2014 18:44

I did consider using the Irish Gaelic version of those 'two words' - but pronunciation might cause some difficulty to a few readers.

And I didn’t want you all to parse them too much either.

The 71-year-old publicist Max Clifford, who last week was found guilty on eight counts of indecent assaults against several females aged 15 to 18, has just been given a sentence totaling 8 years in prison at Southwark Crown Court.

Judge Anthony Leonard ruled that Clifford should serve his eight sentences of between six and 24 months consecutively.

Judge Anthony Leonard also said he must serve at least 4 years before being considered for release.

A good day for the justice system, first we have a judge who showed no favours to a fellow judge by jailing the barrister Constance Briscoe for attempting to pervert the course of justice in respect of the ex-cabinet minister Chris Huhne's speeding points case, she should have known better as she was a part-time judge, and secondly a judge who had the balls to hand down sentences to run consecutively as opposed to concurrently, against a dirty old man who thought he was untouchable.

We need more judges like these sitting on the bench.

Conniving, conceited creep - glad he got his just desserts.

Respect to the women that had the bravery to bring him to court.

Now his wife and family have the ordeal of coming to terms with his
conviction and sentence - his damage to others continues. :-(

When our elder sister tried to make her way in show biz in the 1950,s she came across many sleazeballs.

She had a lovely singing voice and did team up with two other girls who did a Beverley sisters type act.

They were semiprofessional and got one night dates at places like the Cafe De Paris in London

She was on Caroll Levis programme on the radio but lost out to a 14 year old lad.

Carroll Levis 's female hostess Violet Pretty was leaving and he offered her the job but it was strings attached"!!

Violet Pretty changed her name to Anne Heywood for her screen career

The saying then was "whisky and sofa" ie you have a slug of whisky and the we get it together on the sofa and I will get you work!!

She wasnt that kind of girl , and indeed thought he wasnt a nice man either and turned down his offer.

So sleaze was always there.

The problem though is that some of the sleazeballs thought they could do what they wanted and intimidate girls or groom them into complying

How long will he actually serve though?? l understand more victims have come forward since he was found guilty, will they be able to make charges??

Some years ago my OH was on jury duty...the accused was a fraudster, who got 8 yrs. Had lead a good life eating in the best restaurants etc....while in prison he some how managed to get to France to eat in restaurants,it was in the mirror newspaper, he was'nt a millionaire and did'nt have the influence Max C had.....but he did it, so what can MC get up too....hopefully security wont allow this nowadays, but l bet he gets some favours!!!

Although the total of the time he was sentenced to was 8 years, as I posted earlier, the judge recommended he should serve a minimum of at least 4 years before being considered for parole.

Only time will tell how long he will actually serve, he was a devious and powerful man with powerful friends, he knows many of the secrets of the rich and famous - and I have no doubt he will use every tool of persuasion to call in a few favours.

It appears the judge had to sentence according to the guidance in place at the time the offences were committed - personally I think that is wrong and that the sentencing guidelines used should be those that are in place today, had that been the case, one of the offences he was found guilty on, could have got him a minimum of 10 years as on that offence he would have been charged with rape.

AnnCardiff Report 3 May 2014 10:17

well more have come forward and there are other charges pending it seems, so probably like Stuart Hall, he will appear in court again
