XP won't receive security updates. I used to use Microsoft Security Essentials, obviously I don't now. |

Microsoft are not producing them although if it did (as in the case of Heartbleed) then in theory it could still receive them. |

If you already have Security Essentials (basic anti-virus software) you can continue to run it on XP but you will get a warning to tell you that your operating system (XP) is no longer safe because it is obsolete and not receiving security updates from Microsoft. |
