It's a complicated procedure Jude, you CANNOT remove it from site without a license.

It's best to google it because the method is time consuming. Sometimes the council will help if you twist their arm enough. If it's forestry commission land speak with them otherwise get an intermediary to speak with the land owner.

Good luck

Right well this is abit complicated cause we don't know who owns the woods, a very big company have indicated that they do, but the old boy who used to live in our house actually had it registered in his name....so l was told yesterday and today, the person who told me is going to check it out with solicitors....now this could mean we are responsible for the Knotweed.
l have been looking at Roundup, their products and information. We know how iNvasive it is, its possibly 10 to 15 ft from the concrete in our garden, so 20 - 25ft from the house, hate to think how far down its gone and l know the tentacles spread out to aprox 30ft....grrrrr. Roundup does imply you have to be a specialist to use the stuff, but there is also alot of concern about how safe this stuff is. One neighbour has been cutting it down, 2 others got rid of it ALL 2 yrs ago, but its back with double strength......:-P :-P :-P
If the land is registered to the previous owner, we have a big job on our hands. Lovely woods with loads of wild life and plums and KNOTWEED !!

Glyphos is pretty lethal - spray it on the leaves and kills down to the roots - it's very expensive though - works on brambles a treat - don't know if it works on knotweed

Hello Jude.

If the knotweed turns out to be your responsibility I would be inclined to follow the guidelines from this site.

Hello Lesley....thank you for that, l have had a peep. l will also contact the environment office. One of residents up the road keeps going into the woods and cutting it down, l'm going to have to tell him not to as that is one of the worst things to do...grrrrr

Thank you:)

I have a Bamboo problem, probably 15 years ago a previous neighbour planted it in her garden it comes through under the fence into My garden....what I have been doing is cutting the shoot down to about six inches long and injecting the stalk with neat roundup...........I use some of the hyperdermics that came with a printer ink refilling kit...........Bob

Some years ago we had main drainage provided by the Water Board. One of the conditions for getting it was that the Board had to deal with the Japanese Knotweed, which was flourishing along all the verges where the pipes were going.

From various local meetings we learnt that the best killer is a chemical not available to the general public. It has to be treated every year for at least 5 years - and even then is not guaranteed to be totally eradicated.

We now have huge patches of dead knotweed along the verges, with the Water Board inspecting regularly for new outbreaks.

Good luck, Jude. I hope you find someone else to take responsibility for the stuff.

I wonder who the idiot was who brought the stuff to the UK in the first place - it's a menace, along with Balsam - dreadful stuff choking out our natural plants

It was me. I espied some in a little enclave whilst on a romantic break and thought: "Hmmm that would look nice in my Merseytonvillesidegrampiancheshire garden."
The neighbours kicked up such a fuss. Behind their newly acquired knotweed screen.
Still, I can't see them either.
Result.
