After their performance in Brazil I think they all should donate all their sponsorship and advertising money to charity.

What's the difference between the England squad and a Tea bag ???

A Tea bag stays in the cup longer. :-)

I thought Wayne Rooney, came across really well, at the press conference, he seemed really down that the team didn't go through to the next round.

I'm sure the whole team didn't go to Brazil wanting to lose, why would they do that, if they hadn't of wanted to go, then there was plenty who would of jumped at the chance? As for the money side of it all, why should they give money away?

People who earn loads of money, are just like people who earn a little, maybe they give a proportion of the money away, but just don't tell the world what they do with it,and if they don't want to give it away, that's up to them, it's their money to do what they want with.

I have a cousin and a nephew who played sport for England, to be at that level, you only play because you want to, when you don't want to, you either slip down the ladder, or quit.

Do you think we ought to....
"Tie A Yellow Ribbon round The Old Oak Tree " for their homecoming?

What reception will Luis Suárez receive from Liverpool fans on his return?

As you may be aware, I've no interest in Football.

As an outsider, there seem to be a number of foreign born footballers (or at least foreign sounding names) playing for English premier league clubs.

Do you think that the 'pool' of UK born, up and coming footballers may not have had the opportunity to play top grade football?

Just an idea.

jax Report 22 Jun 2014 11:32

I think that could be the problem DET

I used to love football from the late 60s up until the 80s and will always be an Arsenal supporter......but there are too many foreigners playing now, that I cant say the names let alone remember them.

Plus they earn silly money and charge far too much to see a game.....that's if you can watch a game without a season ticket?

As team the England squad does not work, it is full of Prima Donnas, who as individual players may be great, but they do not work well as a team, someone needs to tell them there is no 'I' in team.

They are just not hungry enough to want to win.

Maybe if they were all dropped and a team picked from non-championship teams may make a difference. They would be proud to play for their country.

Our team is a team full of overpaid, overpraised players, who sadly believe their own press!

They are not gods, they are certainly not men who I would want any of my children to look up to. They are a complete waste of space.

Oh and I hate footie, never got it, never will. But even I can see the writing on the wall......

Now watching the cricket on the telly over the last few days has been a joy.... Especially yesterday with the fans all dressed up. They do make me laugh. And I love the commentary, especially Bumble... :-D

I can remember, in the late 60's, when a Southampton footballer (can't remember his name) worked in his dad's greengrocery in Shirley High Street in Southampton, to subsidise his footballing pay!!
Can't get much more 'local' than that :-D

They should be on minimum wage and only get paid for results :-D

Sorry but they were rubbish. A team paid over £300k a week per man can't defend and can't hit a ball in a net wants to be slung out on their bums. What do they do every time they train. Actually how often do they train? They are all mega rich..

£300k a week. We are having a laugh here surely. What planet are you on? Young children and their parents, grandparents pay out hard earned money to see their local teams and national team and what do they get in return. A load of whatever. you want to call it. I'll be polite...... garbage.

Such a shame as so many wonderful footballers for the future will either be corrupted or walk away.

Overpaid, underworked, and still unable to come up with the goods.

The term 'Fat Cat' springs to mind.

I'm now wondering how many people if offered a wage, for any job, would say "no thanks, sorry that's far to much to pay me"

I'll be honest I wouldn't, I'd say ta very much :-D

Football brings in millions of pounds from around the world, so I'd expect them to be paid loads, after it's them that the fans go to watch. I don't worry about what they earn, if I did, I wouldn't ever go to see a game again, then I'd feel I wouldn't be paying them. If you don't go, you don't pay them.

Is football over priced and expensive to watch? yes extremely, maybe if people stopped going prices would tumble, but they won't will they, it's far to popular.

:-D

Too many foreign players in the Premier League.

They should be limited like the cricket clubs were in the 70's.

Like most jobs if you don't perform you're out !!

Its about time they let some younger talented players into the England side, the ones we have now are getting past their sell by date lol

I used to go to Highbury as a kid in the 60s and 70s and it wasn't a planned outing, dad and I would just go as something to do on a Saturday afternoon. It didn't cost a lot to get in half a crown springs to mind at one stage....and yes we did have to stand (North bank)

I did sit next to an ex Arsenal/England player at primary school (not through choice just to stop me talking :-D) he retired probably 20 years ago, I expect he earnt a decent wage whilst there but not enough to retire on....I see through googling his name, he and his wife have small a business.....but I bet they don't have a fleet of cars in their garage and live in a sprawling mansion

Jax, my husbands PE teacher was Bob Wilson, and he never tires of telling me that he put a goal past him once:-D He also went to school with Charlie George, who still works at The Arsenal :-D

I used to be goalie for this lad and his mates when I was 10/11 during play time :-D

Yeah Bob Wilson was in goal when I used to go and of course Charlie George was one of the players.....doesn't he do the tours around the ground now?.....never got to see big matches as dad didn't think it would be safe :-(

~Lynda~

~Lynda~ Report 22 Jun 2014 17:44

Yes Jax Charlie George still does do tours, well as of last year he was, anyone I know who has had a tour with him says how good he is.

I used to go to The Arsenal in the late 60's quite a lot, always remember the bloke at the ticket office, telling us to go through the turnstile two at a time, never realised until much later in life, that it was so he could pocket one of the ticket prices :-D

Norf Londoners eh :-D :-D :-D
