Cynthia yes Family Tree Forum, I think even that one may have split into two but not sure, never go on it now. Lots of people left that time. It maybe even before most of the current GR admin staff were here. (2007).

It is always a shame when action by admin staff, even if within their rules, can spoil the boards for the rest of us. Not saying we won't survive without John, of course we will, but the autocracy leaves a bit of a nasty taste. (no doubt this thread won't last long).

Anyway, what has happened to Shelly, shouldn't she be out here in the thick of it explaining why the ban is such a long one? :-S

Mersey, I noticed that Cynthia's OP has been RR'd I can't see any reason why it should have though.

Lyndi, I agree. Now I wonder who could have had that RR'd.

I for one will miss John about the boards, his ban is far too severe, while some posters get away with it all.

I have no doubt this thread will be removed because GR staff decisions are being brought into disrepute and that's against T&Cs I should imagine.

I am sure that GR would not ban a member just for the sake of it.

Maybe the OP has been reported because it goes against the T&Cs as the banned member has no redress and the reporter feels that this thread is discussing something that cannot be defended by the individual.

I think a 6 year ban is ridiculous................a month or two, maybe, but this is way over the top.

It's a chatboard, people sometimes overstep the mark as is the way of chatboards, I think more short bans when deserved, would keep it sweeter.

John is a self-confessed winder upper, he repeatedly posted the same thing over and over to wind Errol up, but I don't think a huge long ban is helping anyone.

It might just tempt others to try the same trick to get other members banned for years, so making things worse than they sometimes are now. :-\ :-\

So why couldn't the gutless moron have sent Cynthia a pm stating its against the t&c's or whatever.

If John himself didn't like the thread surely he would say so as he has the ability to pm

...now there's the defining comment. If a person (anyone) is warned and continues to do what they have been warned about then surely something has to be done.
Maybe the six and a half years could seem harsh to some but if a person continues to do something they have been warned about then they have to accept the consequences.
