When people ring with a spiel OH just leaves the phone off the hook and walks away back to his paper, computer or TV.. when he returns later there is no one there.. works well.

Fraud/scam calls he says does your mother know you are a criminal .. and they hang up.

However, my cousin a private detective had to deliver a subpoena to a chap, he knocked on chap's door and asked the giant of a person that answered the door if he was Denis (such and such) and he said No I am little Denis you want big Denis.... my cousin thought about his dental work he had just paid for and was rather worried but Denis was not home.... so he then phoned a friend (hence that expression .. he started it) and asked can I borrow your Mr Whippy ice-cream van.. he came along the street playing the familiar tune Greensleeves .. out ran children with their parents and yep one of them was Big Denis, and one subpoena was delivered.. BTW he was hopeless at doing those whippy ice-creams.
