Making the decision to let your girl go peacefully was the reward you gave her for being a wonderful companion <3

A few weeks ago ( it seems like yesterday sometimes) I had to take tiny junior cat, aged 4, to the vet as he was dying. It all happened suddenly after he had won a fight against anemia which had lasted since April. He was bouncing around, biffing me for food and noisy. Not allowed out he drank a tiny amount of water from the loo which had one of those cleaning tablets in the cistern. They are very poisonous. A week later junior was gone but not forgotten. He had a personality as big as a tiger and was so funny .... Huge senior cat is still moping.

It is a very hard rain but little by little you'll find that time will heal most pain if in a somewhat rough and ready fashion. It is a sincere tribute to a lost loved cat to make space in your life for another but don't rush it.

" What a luxury a cat is, the moments of shocking and startling pleasure in a day, the feel of the beast, the soft sleekness under your palm, the warmth when you wake on a cold night, the grace and charm even in a quite ordinary workaday puss. Cat walks across your room, and in that lonely stalk you see leopard or even panther, or it turns its head to acknowledge you and the yellow blaze of those eyes tells you what an exotic visitor you have here, in this household friend, the cat who purrs as you stroke, or rub his chin, or scratch his head."

Now Now Shirley you wasnt taking her to be killed,,,,,,her suffering was at a premium and you had 2 options,,,,,either let her go peacefully in a place she was familer with with people there she was comfortable with,,,or let her linger for a few more days possibly having a stroke through the stress of her illness,,,,and finding her dead having suffered terrible pain.Which is the cruelest?

If the vet didnt think it was right it wouldnt have been done.

You took a very brave decision and you need to praise yourself for that,,,,you have lovely memories and photos that you can smile over. Her time spent in your care was second to none and pity more animals dont get the home and love all animals deserve.

Its very early days yet to not miss her popping up here and there its only natural, but you will pull through and smile again with happy thoughts of her and not sorrow.

I still have my dogs lead after nearly 20 years. The fun we had on that is now what I remember.

<3 <3 <3 thank you through my tears . Its so hard losing her I so wish she knew I didnt want to send her on her way

I went upstairs to find her to see she was asleep on the landing . My initial contact to her didnt get any response and stroking didnt wake her either .I thought she had died!!

Panic but then reality stepped in and as she became aware I thought SHIT I am waking her up only to taking her to get killed!!
Not a nice thought

I think she did know cos she spent time on the bed with hubby even though he was sleeping and had said his goodbyes the previous evening

Its very hard Yes she was a cat NO she was a much loved family member who gave so much love back to us

I cant go through this again so we wont take on another pet sadly

I know there are lots of animals that need a home but its too much to get involved at our age

"Silly thing isnt it to love someone so much that parting is heartbreaking"

Not remotely silly but very hard. Hurting is the price you pay for loving that much, but it shows what a lovely person you are, and that Mirabelle was as lucky to have you as her family as you were to have her. She's free of any pain now so try and take comfort in the fact that she had a happy life with you and was loved. No one, animal or human, can ask for better.

Have cleared out her bed from her corner in the lounge and sorted out her food cupboard and dumped the food that Harold the tortoise wont eat .

Cant get rid as yet her cat basket that she went every day to the vet and the top folded blanket that was sometimes soiled and and had to be washed as she puked or peed on the way home

We wont use it again but its the basket our previous cat had too and was sent on his way in it

It will go in the loft till we can say get rid as its about 37 years old and is wicker that the blind people used to make all those years ago

Have found some pictures that grandson took on my I pad and found how to email them so one of her is now my PC home page picture

I am still weepy and too after seeing her gone wonder if we hung on just a little too long BUT that doesnt solve anything now . She is now at peace although I am in pieces

Silly thing isnt it to love someone so much that parting is heartbreaking

I know she wasnt a human but she was family to us . her going to me is just a much a loss as losing the family members that have gone too

We wont be taking on another pet as we are getting on a bit and wonder if we have the allotted time to care properly for a new family member properly

still blubbing today

Sorry to hear about your loss, we had the same thing with George my Avatar a year ago, so easy to say to someone else it's time to let go, but when it's your own pet It's another ball game all together.

George is resting under a rose bush called "Our George" in his favourite sunny spot in the garden.

Best wishes,
Mayfield

Thank you all for your comforting words

Its very hard this morning not having her come up onto my lap for her morning cuddles.

I keep thinking she is asleep behind my chair or up on the landing snoozing and she will be down soon .

Its early days I know and she will always be in our hearts even though she is no longer here

Time heals but its getting there that is the hard part

Thanks

I am so sorry to hear this. It's a really hard decision but you have shown your love for Mirabelle by doing what is best for her and letting her go. I hope you and your OH can be comforted by knowing that she had a very happy life with you for many years.

'Orrible innit?

People think I am hard about my pets dying because I am out looking for another one immediately.

I can't be dealing with the grieving, too hard, so I try to turn my grief into a positive.

Like yourself, I have given the cat everything it needed and most of what it wanted on top of that, some things like the right flavour of meat probably don't even exist, and there are so many unwanted cats out there who are in need of the love and care I can provide.

Oh Shirley I am so sorry you had to let poor Mirabelle go but it was the best thing for her and you have been so caring of her, despite the strain on you and hubby. I know you didn't really mind how much running about you did to keep Mirabelle comfortable, you couldn't have done more and she obviously had a lovely happy life with you.

It will be very strange for you both for a long time, but you know Mirabelle is still with you, in your hearts and in those places in your home where she liked to be.

I will be thinking about you xxx
