Now we are on benefit I thought I had better make room in the fridge and freezer for the frozen pizzas, oven chips, value burgers, turkey twizzlers and all the other stuff we claimants are meant to eat.

Mostly out of stuff that was hanging about and some lentils I have made enough to feed a small nation.

Lentils and some pot barley that we have had left in the bag for years, that went in the pot with a couple of carrots,an onion,a bit of swede, bit of courgette, two sad sticks of celery,a spud, some mange touts, bit of left-over white wine and some green Oxos. There are a good eight or nine portions of soup there.

I make the bread now in the machine There were several rolls going stale as well as the bread ends and stuff so we decided on bread pudding but there was too much to all fit in the bowl so there was a bread and butter pudding with some rhubarb from the garden as well.

Some oranges in the bowl were getting a bit past it so I made some orange curd with a lump of unsalted butter that has been in the fridge quite a long time. Because it was made of what was hanging and not to a proper recipe it wasn't quite right so I mixed it with a bit of apple that has been in the fridge since Fred brought them in last year. It went in a tart that tasted like it came from a posh patisserie

There was some candied peel in it too, made from orange peel I store in the freezer.

The rest of the pastry became jam tarts with jam I have made from the fruit Fred brought in by the lorry load every autumn.

Now I have one less excuse for not getting stuck into sanding that floor.

Can'r wait to go and get the ready meals.

You could call the book 'Fred's daugher's economy meals'!

I don't really know what turkey twizzlers are but I know that Jamie Oliver didn't like them being served for school dinners.

Maybe Fred hung on so long because he was waiting for a decent meal or for me to becoming the prolific author Liz thinks I am going to be.

Well we are not on benefits but I have oven chips in the freezer and use them too.

Although I suppose the pension is a benefit so that's ok I qualify. :-D

I don't like chips much at all.

We did have some oven chips once but I liked them even less and they didn't get used up.

So much to do, get the tattoos and the piercings, get on Jeremy Kyle.

I have worked out and been horrified by how much the cat costs me a week and really don't know how I am going to afford to keep the pit- bull when I get it.

ty Joy........ my mind was going down a very strange road..... imagining little parts of a turkey :-0

Spiral shaped, so that they aren't confused with chicken nuggets?

I think the only "ready made" we eat would be little spring rolls........ I couldn't be bothered messing about making them.

Sharron

Sharron Report 9 Jul 2014 10:17

I don't think I could even be bothered to eat them.

We have to have ready made Yorkshires if I can't persuade OH to make them.

Sometimes we go into Iceland and are always amazed at what you can buy frozen now.

Frozen bubble and squeak? Never!

mine have never had Turkey Twizzlers.

I am so lucky being married to exchef who does all the meals I love it when he just gets the odds and sods from the fridge and makes something edible. Yesterday was a homemade pizza with all the leftovers from fridge as the toppings.

Wonder what hes planning to make me for lunch today? will have to look in freezer for benefit meals (although I know theres non in there)

Sharron - I've got a Burberry hat if you want it - I'll give it to you in Wetherspoons later.
Oh, and one of those horrid electronic smoke thingies.

Sharron

Sharron Report 9 Jul 2014 10:33

It had better not be a real Burberry.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Jul 2014 10:37

Why not?

Sharron

Sharron Report 9 Jul 2014 10:40

Because it has to be a really cheap rip-off from the market of course.

Wassup with you?

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Jul 2014 10:41

Well the bloke what I brought it off down the market said it was real.
