I can remember when the Notting Hill Carnival was that - a real family occasion, alas over the years it is not the safe and fun event that it used to be - an event for the many spoiled by the few :-(

In a few minutes we're off to watch the carnival parade in our .little town. The carnival is being reinstated after many years of not happening. Can't compare with Notting Hill. In fact it'll probably be a few Majorettes and maybe 20 floats but no crime or mess and everyone in a good mood; a real family occasion

The Birmingham Carnival used to come passed my front door. I loved it.
No mess, no crime, no problem

. Lots of fun , colour and noise.

I miss it.

Stopped being fun, many years ago.

Far too much crime, such as Pickpoceting etc.

And the streets after dark, become very unsafe.

Sadly I have to say it is no longer the fun family festival that is used to be :-(

The biggest criminal Fest in England comes around again :-(

The weekend when most Notting Hill residents go on holiday.

The revellers show no respect for the homes of those who live in the area.
They find their front doors used as toilets. And despite the council cleaning up. Rubbish often found in gardens etc.

People have even come out of their homes to find people going to the loo on their doorsteps and I am not talking about just Peeing!!!!

I am so glad I do not live near there. ;-)

Dermot - I used to enjoy going to the Notting Hill Carnival, but to be honest, these days, due to the many serious incidents that have occurred in recent years, I am glad I can no longer get up town to watch it.

A mighty long enjoyable weekend in prospect plus a hefty policing bill to pay, followed swiftly by busy court appearances of the minority of miserable misbehaving miscreants who cause unnecessary trouble & worry for the nearby residents.

Let the music & fun flow!

Alas TessAkaBridgetTheFidget - my mobility problems mean that these days I am no longer able to go and watch it - but will enjoy the highlights on the television :-)

It sounds magnificent - hope that you enjoy it!

I am full of envy, ;-) ;-) ;-) :

Just hope that the rain stays away, so that you can see all the wonderful costumes in their full glory. :-) :-) :-)

The Notting Hill Carnival returns to the streets of west London this August bank holiday weekend - Sunday 24 August and Monday 25 August. More than a million people are expected to attend the biggest carnival in Europe.

Sunday 24 August: J'overt marks the opening of the Carnival followed by Family Day, a jubilant Children's Parade showcasing flamboyant costumes along the carnival route.

Monday 25 August: Monday Parade, The Grand Finale and main carnival parade, showcases a sea of vibrant colours as bands and floats in magnificent costumes dance to the tantalizing rhythms of Carnival.
