Must say I'm very impressed with the judge's summing up so far - seems to me she working towards an acquittal - could be wrong of course

Looks like guilty of culpable homicide and there are the other charges to consider.

As long as he gets time inside and serves it that would be some sort of justice for Reeva.

I'm shocked they have no jury system

Gee

Gee Report 11 Sep 2014 18:09

I'm disgusted too

In my mind he murdered her during a state of 'red mist' I don't believe it was premeditated, I think he just lost it

The first shot went into her leg, not fatal, surely she would have screamed out in pain? Would he have not have recognised her scream?

There's lots of other stuff that doesn't add up to him being innocent but you probably already know this

This is 'my opinion'.....before I'm jumped on!

If they had a jury, I wonder what the outcome would have been?

How often & on what inadequate data do we misjudge one another!

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 11 Sep 2014 18:34

But we haven't had an outcome yet! As I understand it, tomorrow she will state whether he is guilty, or not, of culpable homicide (manslaughter). He's been acquitted of murder but not manslaughter - unless I've missed something, which is entirely possible as I'm not quite firing on all cylinders today :-S

Oscar Pistorius has been cleared of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp - but he could still face a lengthy jail term if found guilty of her manslaughter.

The 27-year-old athlete broke down as j udge Thokozile Masipa said there was not enough evidence to support prosecution claims Pistorius intended to kill the law graduate-turned-model when he shot her at his home on Valentine's Day last year.

But the judge appeared to indicate he will be convicted of culpable homicide - the South African equivalent of the UK's manslaughter charge - when he returns to court tomorrow, describing Pistorius as being "negligent" in killing 29-year-old Ms Steenkamp.

She told the court in Pretoria that Pistorius acted "hastily" with "too much force" when he fired four bullets through his toilet door in the early hours of February 14, 2013.

Pistorius, dubbed Blade Runner due to his prosthetic limbs, has always admitted he shot Ms Steenkamp. But he told police he mistook his girlfriend for intruders.

But Pistorius was also described by the judge as a "very poor witness", who "lost his composure" during cross-examination.

Delivering her verdict this afternoon, judge Masipa criticised Pistorius' decision to reach for his 9mm pistol and fire it through the toilet cubicle in his Pretoria home rather than raise the alarm or fire a warning shot.

She said: " There were other means available to you to deal with threats to life.

"All the accused had to do was pick up his cell phone and ring security, or run to the balcony and call for help.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 11 Sep 2014 20:04

I am bloody disgusted that he has been aquitted of her pre-meditated murder.

If it wasn't pre-meditated why did he keep firing the gun into the small toilet cubicle when he had already shot her in the leg and Reeva would have more than likely screamed so he knew who was in the toilet.

I hope he gets at least 25 years in the rottenist jail tha SA have.
