London's New Year's Eve fireworks display

It will cost £10 per person to watch this years London's New Year's Eve fireworks display, the maximum number of tickets a person can purchase is four and the number of tickets available for the event is to be limited to 100,000 ticketed spectators - this is the first time a charge has been levied for the event and the first time the number of spectators has been limited to a specific number.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-29234879

People have always flocked to Central London to celebrate on New Year's Eve, and since 2003 the firework display has been an added attraction, levying a charge so a 100,000 people will be able to watch the fireworks in a designated area, is not going to stop people flocking to Central London to celebrate on New Year's Eve.

So, apart from putting a few pounds in the Mayor's coffers, I am not sure what this decision is supposed to achieve - because there will still be a strain on the capital's transport, police, and infrastructure on New Years Eve - or am I just :-S :-S :-S

I think they are hoping this will put off some people.

The crowds are getting more and more, year after year and the transport system goes into meltdown trying to get all these people home.

If people have to pay to watch the fireworks, they won't spend as much elsewhere I expect unless they are wealthy, so some shopkeeper or such will miss out

Knowing what happens here in mid-summer when we have the Celebration of Light competition .......................

they charge for seating in the area on land directly across from the barge where the display is set off

..................... but most people find other places to watch the fireworks for free

after all, most of the display is way up in the sky, and you don't have to be very close to get a decent view.

In my opinion .............. it's more a way of getting money, with the stated intention of cutting down the crowds sounding a better way of saying it :-)

Just ask where the money is going :-)
