This may vary a bit according to what pc you have and what version of windows you run.
Do you know how to get into Control Panel? If so go to the link for printers and that should show all installed printers, usually just need to click on the printer and set as default.

May need to right click on the printer

When you go onto the printers tab in the control panel what do you see?

Sue,

It has my laptop and mouse at the top which is fine.
Below that is my printer but now big but it has a yellow triangle which means it needs troubleshooting which I have done quite a few times.

I am thinking of paying the pc firm we have in the next village.

I use Windows 7 and when I go into Control Panel then Devices & Printers and right click on my printer icon - I get a drop down menu and one of the items is "Set as
default printer"

I have a wireless printer that worked ok from my main XP PC

I bought a laptop but it couldn't find the Kodak printer to add it even though I used the installation disc

Now too the PC won't pick it I up wirelessly so I have to attach a USB lead to the tower and then transfer that to the laptop to get any printing done from either of them

Annoying but it is working

I would add that if the printer is under warranty you could contact HP:-

It's always worth installing and reinstalling again it often sorts a problem.
Are you saying it will not print at all or just not your default?

with win7 you cannot add a printer or set as def if user status nor admin. sign on as admin and set it from there. A lot of people are permanently in admin mode. Fine for convenience but risky from a security point of view. Most HP printers are vulnerable to hacking.
