reminisce is the word,
Just thinking back when my threads would have dropped off the board or become the amusing threads they were meant.
I know the GR community is still active so why have we allowed the boards to stagnate.
If we stagnate the RR has their way
WE AS A COMMUNITY are better than RR´s

Hold together because together we are strong apart we are just a twig cast adrift :-D

For united we stand, divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We'll be together, together, you and I.

Ooops, sorry........I went off on one!!

:-D :-D

We try our best Uzzi but wonder if it is worth it. :-\
There's not enough community spirit!

I don't think the stagnation has anything to do with RRers....... In my opinion that is......tis cos it is all old hat and what there is to say has already been said.....Tis no longer the novelty it was......we hang on for various reasons.

Edit.....I take some of that back......where is the lack of Community spirit? ..look at Sharron's threads for instance...... A thriving mixed community adds to her threads regularly as do they on a few other threads.....some threads are obviously just for those on them but hey ho.........I like the threads who accept all who enter them as long as they behave themselves.....Those threads will always have all sorts participating and not just the few.......My opinion of course......and as I say......nowt to do with RRers

a lot of the "oldsters" have left, and there's very little "new blood" coming in

people lost patience with continual Error messages, problems with the tree, etc etc

and now the Error message is creeping back in, there's no (or very little) email notification of new pms, etc etc

GR itself is stagnating

There are times when I wish I could say something refreshing & unexpected on these threads.

And then on odd occasions, being a Gemini, I'm forced to bridle my tongue.

Tecwyn Report 21 Sep 2014 21:09

Things have been quiet on the boards lately, but I seem to remember the same thing happened last summer.
People are away on holiday and take time to return here, others have other things to do, but come back as the nights draw in.

As for the irritating RRer, well those sad people are best ignored.

As for community spirit - earlier this year I spent nearly three months in hospital, and came out minus a leg.
At one time things looked grim, and my life was in the balance, but I won't go into all that.

During that time Shaun on the Welsh thread compiled a booklet of all the people on here who had sent messages wishing me well. Kind, heart warming messages from many people I had never "spoken" to.
To say that I was astonished that forty five GR members had sent messages to me is an under statement.

Those messages really did make a difference when I was at a very low ebb, and I can't tell you how much.

I am home now, and life goes on, though sadly my OH is now in a home.

The point I'm trying to make is that the community spirit is still alive and well here, and I for one are grateful for it.

At the end of the day ;-) it is what is on here.....views are different, fun and silliness is different, people are different. The boards are here to be enjoyed for everyone .....

Sometimes things are voiced in away as to some know what is being talked about and others dont.....can sometimes be misconstrued or not understood at all.....

I would like to say I like to participate in many threads and hopefully without rudeness, upset or come across the wrong way, if I am wrong as others it is nice to apologise and move on.......

Long may the threads reign with all kinds of posters with all kinds of subjects, fun or serious......

GR do have some serious issues to sort out in my opinion more so like Sylvia mentioned about the error messages and also the notifications.....There is hardly any communication between the posters and GR anymore......

Communication is a wonderful thing and expressed in different ways can be
enjoyed by a variety of all kinds of persons.....

Just saying :-D ;-)

Island Report 21 Sep 2014 21:19

Sorry Tec but I do not call threads with high double figures of views and very low single figures of posts 'community spirit'.

Wend Report 21 Sep 2014 21:30

Perhaps some people have become reticent to post Island, because they feel they might be shot down in flames. I know I have :-(

Susan10146857

Susan10146857 Report 21 Sep 2014 21:31

Ah.....but maybe they are being viewed by non members.......If no-one posts on my threads I at least know they have been viewed and maybe someone has either been entertained or learned something.......I never post on a thread that seems as if it is a private chat thread any more.....one doesn't want to go where one is not wanted ;-)

if no-one posts on my threads I also think that perhaps they have nothing to say.....after all....it would be adding rubbish to rubbish :-D....If anyone would like to know why I really don't post much.....feel free to ask but do expect to hear the truth :-D and please don't start with the snidey remarks if I am not agreed with. it is a personal choice :-)

Blimey Wend, when did that happen? :-0

I'm always amused by the 'non paying members' line. It's like blaming the office cleaners. ;-)

Wend

Wend Report 21 Sep 2014 21:41

I posted on a thread of yours which amused me not long ago Susan, and I received no response from you whatsoever.

It must have been rubbish!

Susan10146857

Susan10146857 Report 21 Sep 2014 21:51

wasn't deliberate Wend......Now and again I have to apologise to people as when I look back I can see that someone else has posted and it looks as if I have ignored them.....I have great admiration for anyone who can keep a thread going and chat to everyone on there.....I am rubbish at it......For instance.....the people on the longer running threads...Suemaid.... Auntie wot sit .....and others......they chat away days later and have something to say to all who have added......now me!......I am an off the cuff person and get in a right muddle if I have to think too much about which thread I was last on.....I do realise that sometimes I come across as rude by seemingly ignoring....but I honestly don't....I also write stuff then go off and do something else for days......so maybe the last person on my thread won't get answered

Rambling Report 21 Sep 2014 21:58

I've been thinking ( I know, I know, time to go and do something more interesting while that pain Rose pontificates ;-) ) but I do think it is partly down to nothing more than boredom with saying much the same things over a period of years. I sometimes think I will post and then realise I have said it all before lol.

For me personally, I'm afraid I find most of the jokes too juvenile for my taste ( I'm not a teenager and I don't particularly find 'teenage' humour funny any more lol) , I don't 'do' fluffy 'always look on the bright side' threads because life isn't like that tbh ( not for me at the moment anyway) and I can't fake it lol.

I do find the constant belittling of the sometimes genuine RRers off putting, it may not suit people to have their posts reported ( I don't like it when mine are!) but I think more often than not there IS a genuine reason ( it's the difference between me watching a tv programme like the big bang theory and my auntie watching, she would be genuinely affronted by some things that I find funny on it...she is not sad or pathetic or irritating, she is of an age not to be 'comfortable' with sexual matters being discussed for instance).

and lastly, I love that people join in on the long running threads like the Aus' one, but I am in and out of here and whilst I don't feel like I would be intruding, I also don't feel I have the time to contribute properly to them, I prefer a 'topic' thread that I can add to but don't have to commit to being on if i don't have time (or inclination to depress everyone lol).

and lastly again !some of the people who I clicked with have gone, they are irreplaceable in some ways. That's not to say that the people here are not lovely, just that neither they nor I have connected in the way that makes the leap from friendly acquaintance to 'friend' :-)

Mersey Report 21 Sep 2014 21:59

If im honest I dont get bothered by the ignoring or even the missed post here and there.......by anybody :-D :-D

It is the hurtful comments that upset me, but as a whole whoever says them no matter who they are should have a think and a re read before they post and see how things may come across......an apology makes a difference and moving on is even better

I have no quips or anomosity to anyone here, different boards for different people.....

A thread is put up surely for others to enjoy and not a selected few, it just depends if one wants to post .......

Ah well - at least I found my earring - no thanks to you or Lady Scozz, who had me cleaning out the rubbish beneath my kitchen cupboards for hours. :-P (that's for Lady Scozz btw!)

It had fallen down the back of a chair on the landing upstairs - keep trying Lady Scozz ;-) :-D

I have to say Mersey.....I find what you are saying very hurtful if you are referring to me ;-)....Just goes to show though......everyone can hurt whether they mean to or not.......don't you think?........I have seen many a nasty retort from some who profess to be so nice.....but maybe they didn't mean it either.......don't you think?....Oh my....I am feeling rather harassed by such negative vibes....I think I must go and lie down before I get more upset :-D

Ah!....that thread Wend.....I will root it out again and see what I can see......that's if I can see through the tears being as I am so upset now :-D......by the way.....you. May or may not have noticed but I haven't been on here since before the weekend....been to a dog show
