I think it made the water flow streamlined so there was less splash back and spluttering when the tap was turned on. |

I remember attaching a double-ended rubber tube to the bath taps to act as a shower & very handy too for washing the hair on a Friday evening before going to the 'Hop' at the local dance hall. |
