	Over here you can buy washing soda/soda crystals in supermarkets at £1 a go. You can buy it on the internet too, and the bicarb.

	It is something that has always been available. Maybe it is in the supermarket but you have never had to look for it. It is sodium carbonate and, from looking at something online, it looks like you can turn bicarb into washing soda by baking it at 200c for half an hour on a shallow tray , giving it a bit of a stir sometimes until it changes composition by releasing its carbon dioxide and water (so they say!).
