Comes into effect in Scotland today.

I have been using my own bags for years and rarely need to take one from a shop or supermarket.
I wonder how supermarkets will pack online shopping now?

I got a Tesco delivery on Thursday of last week which was packed in 15 carrier bags of 3 different colours!

Sainsbury are to stop giving points for using your own bags

I use mine anyway including a large car boot bag which is easier to put into the car with shopping

I did an online shop last week and the bags they used were over the top. Some bags just had one item in it .what a waste

I used to use the bags for disposal of the cat litter but now she has passed away they just end up in the recycling

I did comment to the delivery driver what a waste of bags .i managed to unload several and give them back to the driver but guess they just dispose of them anyway

Aldi & Lidl charge 3p for a bag and WHSmith charge 1p.

I don't think charging for bags reduces the number of bags used. Perhaps we should use paper bags like they do in other countries. At least paper is biodegradable.

we've had to pay in Wales for a few years now

France banned free/cheap plastic bags for retail years ago. The sky did not fall in. Options are (a) purchase large expensive bag at point of sale (b) bring your own. Some stores give out free paper bags but not the supermarkets.

Quite what you are supposed to do in Scotland when you roll up on a Sunday for a carry out of wee heavy is not clear.
BOGOF ?

The Irish Republic has been charging for plastic bags for many years. But they do leave out empty cardboard boxes for customers’ use.

A win-win solution. (An expression I dislike!)

Ever shopped in Primark and subsequently been caught in a heavy shower?
Their bags are definitely biodegradable! LOL :-D :-D :-D

A lot of shops stopped giving away cardboard boxes because they get paid for sending the cardboard to be recycled. ;-)

even if you buy clothing in M & S or anywhere else, no bag unless you pay

When we went to jaxs in wales
we watched the lady put our shopping through the till
wondering why she had not gave us any bags to pop it in
then she told us we would have to pay for them if we needed any

well what else where we gonna do with our shopping carry it away in our arms

5P well spent if you need them :-D :-D

I think I saw somewhere that bags used for on line shopping will be charged for, it might have said unless returned to the driver but I am not sure.

Assistant: "Would you like a bag, madam?"
Ancient female customer: "I beg your pardon"
Assistant: "Have you got a card"

customer flounces out, assistant (from Latvia) bemused.

I think there is a button if you use your
own bags, no doubt they will have one for the others on the checkout
but, thought they were getting rid of plastic bags anyway.

Our self-service tills here in Wales have buttons to press to say if you need a bag or not and whether you are using your own bag. I think it's a really good thing and has cut down the use of plastic bags drastically. You get into the habit of always taking a bag with you. I keep one in the car and one in a handbag for any unexpected purchases. The hessian bags supermarkets sell are great and last a long time. Online shopping is delivered in crates.

what's wrong with either,

using your own bags?

trouble is I do a fair bit of impulse shopping which usually means my bags are at home.............

or.......
so, I load the trolley, take it to the car, unload the trolley into the boot, and then use my bags when I get home........I wont be paying 5p a bag.......not on yer Nellie!!

Has anyone ever been charged with shop-lifting plastic bags?
