If he's over 55, every year solicitors in most areas have a free will month, the idea is that you leave something in your will to one of the sponsoring charities...but there is no obligation to do that. |

He could use a dIY form that you get from stationers. This would be ideal for him if he is leaving belongings rather than money so it would be quite straightforward. He must get it properly witnessed though. |

Thank you both, he does want to give whatever money he has left and most of his belongings to charity but it is mainly so our vulture/gold digging sisters don't get anything. |

Just for further info, as we have an Autistic son who cannot look after his own affairs, our will sets up a Trust for his share. We employed a specialist solicitor. (the legal jargon is several paragraphs) and it cost about £300, about six years ago. |

Not scared of making a will, he just wants to make sure his stuff goes where he wants it to go and I didn't know the process. :-) |

Andrew, we renewed our wills and set up a trust for our daughter last year, through an old and trusted firm of local solicitors. I think it cost us about £130. The jargon left me cross-eyed :-D |

Our wills say we just want "everything" sold and the proceeds divided up amongst all the rellies as stated in the will. |

On another thread, it had been suggested that rather than ignore siblings or close blood relatives, they should be left a norminal sum of say 1p. That way there was less chance that they'd have grounds to contest the Will. |

RE Rose's post about free will month, looks like it's actually this month (october) in 2014 , so your brother could get on with it right now... |

re my post sorry it was so mixed up .hard to read without punctuation . But i'll leave it .what I meant i suppose was that we would have expected to inherit from our father in normal circumstances + it has been a slightly bitter pill to think all thes years he didn't plan for us because he believed his wife needed money more than us . in fact THEY probably discussed that she would leave 4 equal parts . if it was just her decisoin " years ago it was incredibly generous because we were'nt very daughter -like . Not much contact no effort to visit her . i did have some interesting chats with her regarding family secretd she "knew" about a slightly irreverent grandmother ." |
