I heard the military top brass asked everyone to think of him too during yesterday journey. Some of the tributes at hockey etc have mentioned them both , agreed it is sad he's being forgotten somewhat. Yesterday saw much of the journey on TV, never seen so many people at the side of the highway and cars pulling right over to allow them clear access. I thought they were both getting full military funerals, maybe the family requested a small family one instead. For those not in the know, this is a very busy highway and it was mostly during rush hour so it's normally more of a parking lot. I know it's not the mother fault the actions of her son but if I were her I'd be arranging to leave something in my will for that poor child, no one has mentioned any siblings for the killer, and the parents whilst not mega rich are certainly not poor.

online, it says his family is planning a funeral for "next week"

why not a full military funeral for him?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Oct 2014 21:34

heard part of that on the radio

are they doing anything for Patrice Vincent, the one killed in Quebec on Monday?

He's sort of been lost in Wednesday's events

Caroline ..................

I think carrying on as usual is the best thing ............... Parliament's in session, I hear almost all, if not all, MPs were there.

We've got to show that they're not going to wear us down.

Now, as AnnC said .................. let's hope no-one else gets an idea, and disrupts Remembrance Day.

But I do think more security people will now be around, and armed, in many places we haven't yet seen them.

It sounds as if there was a serious mental issue with him, as well as being radicalized

Sylvia sorry only picking this up now. Likewise I wonder how he could run around Ottawa with a gun in full view, let alone his face covered with a scarf. In Toronto we might have thought he was just another one of our interesting people except for the gun. As for the future today everything is carrying on as much as normal as possible, and will not change that much for Nov 11th.

I see that the Canadian National Orchestra are here in Scotland
(Edinburgh) for a ten day visit.
There building is quite close to where the shooting occurred.

So tragic that an unarmed innocent man was killed by these morons, may he rest in peace and his family find comfort in their memories. The same for the soldier killed earlier in the week.

I am afraid this kind of thing will happen more and more all over the world - it will be a long time if ever before ISIS is stopped and those misguided enough to join and support it won't give up.

Margee, my deepest sympathy on your loss, I hope you and your family can support and comfort each other at this sad time. It is natural to feel grief, anger, and many emotions mixed up together so treat yourself kindly and get things out of your system on here if you like.

Take care all Canadians, and everyone in large towns and cities everywhere.

Caroline ..................

I've heard he used a rifle

How could someone apparently run around carrying a rifle or long shotgun????

Caroline

Caroline Report 23 Oct 2014 02:32

The worrying thing is both Quebec guys were converted to Muslum not born to it.
Toronto transit is indeed upgrading security mainly for the subways.
The soldier was unarmed and a reservist he didn't stand a chance.
This is with us having armed police everywhere every day, so UK be careful you're in their view too.
Ottawa is a lovely city much smaller than Toronto, you can easily run from the war memorial to the Parliament buildings in minutes. I'd like to know how this guy had a gun as we're not America where everyone carries one daily.

It's now about 8 pm in Ottawa ..............

................. and much of the area around Parliament and downtown is still in lock down ..........

.............. security forces are still searching the Parliament building, and are uncertain as to whether there are still 1 or more accomplices around.

The leaders of the two Opposition parties are still in lock down safe places, and we are waiting to hear a national radio and TV address by the PM "shortly" .................... then the other 2 have to try to work out how they can respond to whatever has been said when they're hidden away!

AND they both hate the PM :-) so they really will want to respond!!!

The man killed in the Central Block, and believed to have killed the soldier, has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32 years old, a Quebecer ..................... who has been in trouble before with the law.
