Allan ~ if we saw this story on a soap opera, we'd laugh, say it was far-fetched :-D

Hope she's not waiting for any major financial windfall any day soon.

It appears that he is still being kept by mum, who is the ripe old age of 91 ;-)

That was in May, the first time most of Oz saw her

She said afterwards that it was the only black dress she had! :-| :-| :-| :-|

I had not realised that she was so young

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Nov 2014 21:16

I've been to one horse race ................................

OH took me to the Grand National at Aintree, before we were engaged ............... so way back about 1966 :-)

I'd spent 5 years in Liverpool, and never been before, so he thought I needed to complete my "education".

lol Sylvia......... it did well, maybe the cow's legs suited it.

On the subject of the "well dressed" couple (cough, cough)......... The Rolling Stones are in Oz, and Mick Jagger had this to say.....

Cor blimey LS,
Waikikamukau is an area near our biggest city - Auckland - settled by the Maori in the 13th century before the bridge was built.

The couple in the scary outfits (geriatric canary & clown woman) got engaged yesterday.......(I'm wondering how he paid for the ring, as he's supposed to be broke).

There are other links to crazy things, including some names of horses which were banned! Who thinks up these names????

I think I won the office sweep in 1978 :-D

There are some weird & wonderful names for racehorses.

My favourite (I'll probably spell it incorrectly) is ykikkamoocow (a NZ horse I believe).

LS ................

we didn't go to the Racecourse ................. we stayed at home and listened to it on the radio.

It poured with rain that day, the parking lot was full of potholes, filled with water

and I remember photos in the papers next day of women who had turned out in all their finery ..................... with bare arms, fancy hats, flimsy shoes, and NO umbrella

I think Australia must be the only country in the world where the whole country comes to a literal standstill while a horse race is on!!

At least, I presume that still happens?

One of my cousins down under and spouse had shares in the syndicate that owned Arwon, who won the Cup in 1978 ...................... they won quite a bit of money, and so did the rest of the cousins down there who backed him

Pity he was a gelding, or my cousins might have been set for life :-D

and, of course you know Arwon is Nowra backwards :- :-D

The story this morning said he proposed to her (he's not divorced from his wife yet) at the cup yesterday....... presented her with a ring........ and she lost it :-0

The new girlfriend will be wife No 3 ... I think

We were sensible yesterday......... rode the courtesy bus!

:-D

There are two clubs nearby, the golf club & the bowling club, both have courtesy buses, which we use frequently!

I know,Scozz, I know.

We have the Bunbury Cup here, run in March :-|

The race-goers have a good time and so do the Police. It's amazing how many people, despite all the warnings beforehand, still consider themselves capable of driving.

I'm also amazed at the number of shoes littering the area outside the grounds

I've only been to the races twice in Oz! Many years ago, an invitation to a corporate event in Melbourne. It was BoRRRRRRRRRRRIng! The other time was in Adelaide, with a friend who knew lots of "racing" people...... that was even more boring!

The daft thing is, I had to stay inside, because I am allergic to horses :-(

This is one of the reasons I don't want to go to the Melbourne Cup.........

http://www.elle.com.au/news/fashion-news/2014/11/best-dressed-melbourne-cup-2014/best-dressed-melbourne-cup-2014-image-9/

The photographs of the aftermath are scary.

Scozz, glad you had a good day

Shame about the two horses that died, and the other 125 that have died on Australian racetracks in the last twelve months.

I'm not a gambler and have only ever been to one race meeting back in 1983 at Leonora. It was part of the Kalgoorlie Race Round.

Second race, one horse fell, and was put down in the middle of the track!

OH and I took the children home and I've never been to another meeting since
