How nice that you have such good flooring etc My family home had concrete floors (it was built in 1949) and those doors with three rectangular panels. My Dad 'updated' the doors by covering with hardboard, as were those in both the Victorian houses I have renovated.

Years back when my Mum was having to live downstairs while waiting for sheltered housing, I brough several dresses down for her to chose from and hung them from the top of the lounge door. Suddenly there was this eerie squeak and the hardboard started to peel off from the top in sort of slow motion. It was hilarious but Mum freaked out. I had to sellotape the board back till my brother brought some panel pins round to fix it. I still smile when I remember.

Well done Sharron, hard work but worth it . I also live in a 1930s ex council house but sadly our doors, skirting and picture rails were removed. Our floorboards aren't that good either. We think previous the tenants who lived here before we brought it played a lot of darts and missed the dartboard an awful lot.
It's a solid little house though and much sturdier than the nearby new builds.

Will have to be very careful of that floor as I teeter about on my six inch stilettoes too.

Totally replaced, unfortunately Sharron.

Bob, it's so cheap, I think it's plywood on a wooden frame! Daughter kicked her shoe off once - it hit the door and made a hole.

The council probably sold the original doors.
We had beautiful street lights once. They were removed, replaced with nasty orange things (since replaced by 'sky friendly' lights that shine in our windows), and the beautiful ones were put in a 'better' part of town - a street with huge houses. As one councillor said 'A more fitting environment'.

Sharron Report 27 Nov 2014 10:06

Were they replaced ?

It is possible you might find your proper doors underneath the ply.

I can remember BB showing how to clad your doors with ply.

I'm so jealous - original doors.

Mine were 'Barry Bucknelled' and 'improved' by being replaced with plywood :-(
