It's a sad day when the data is locked away and taking up server space indefinitely. May be the system could be modified to partially open up the data , say, where it is in excess of 100 years since birth date of individuals, and the owner has not been active for an extended period. Just a thought!

Elizabeth,

That is not actually true. In practice you are logged out of the website each time you close your browser window, drop your internet connection or switch off your PC.

However, if you have elected to stay logged in and also provided you have not deleted your password from your browser, next time you access the site your pc logs you back in automatically, giving the imprerssion that you never logged off.

The same situation applies to any website that provides a 'remember me' or 'stay logged in' option.

If you use this option then bear in mind that anyone who has access to your PC or hacks into it can retreive your passwords and gain unauthorised access to the associated websites.

GR already store information regarding members recent actions including last log in and it would, I beleive, be a relatively minor task show the most recent activity datestamp against the members name.

There is - or was - a way of seeing when someone last logged in, but as a lot of us never log out it's not a reliable way of finding out whether or not that person is an active member. Same is true of Ancestry

I have loads of unopened messages in my Sent Messages box.

It's frustrating! More frustrating when I try to see if they've been opened, and keep getting the Error Message. grrrrrrrrrr

Richard, i have access to the trees of 2 people i know for a fact died several years ago, if the family don't have access to the account i suppose they can't delete the trees.

Also the last 3 out of 4 messages i have sent to people still are there unopened...

:-)

Sorry if this has been asked before / in other forums etc. I have sent a number of messages to members, most of which I get responses from, but in some cases I receive nothing. Indeed I am able to see that the message indicator is a closed envelope i.e member has not opened my message. Is it possible to establish when a member last logged in? Furthermore, if a member does not log in over an extended period (eg he/she may have died), then what happens to their tree data? Does it remain locked out from other users on the website forever?
