Barbra I commented on the thread as you know, but after the OP had gone...thing is if everyone who was ever RRd ( I have been more than several) no longer posted I think the board would have perhaps two people left postingm if that?

so don't be put off, the Report option is there for good reasons, the fact that someone disagreed with what you said or the way you said something shouldn't put you off posting on other topics ( or the same topic but perhaps in different wording?).

Have you questioned the RR?

Every one I have had RRed has been re-instated which I believe to be a bit of a victory.

They could have asked you to word it a little differently, but i saw no real reason ro RR it in the first place ..it gave rise to a healthy debate.

Why would you leave the board just because you were RR'd? It really is no big deal - there's not many people who haven't been RR'd.

but it is MOST annoying when, as you say,

you say something in complete innocence,

and some do gooder takes exception to your wording.......and reports it, instead of coming to the poster, and allowing time for a response, then all hell breaks loose....

Given that most of the thread expressed best wishes to the funny, witty, intelligent and very likeable Stephen Fry and for his marriage to his friend it is sad that all such have been whooshed.

Guess he will be able to afford his partner;s speeding ticket - 101mph in an Aston Martin.

To be fair the reason most reporters do NOT ask the poster to edit or amend etc, is because of the very nasty comments which have been made re said reporters in the past....why would anyone ask for an edit or amendment when to do so means they lose their anonymity, and in the knowledge that some on here will vilify them on and off the board ? In the worst cases they are subjected to abuse and at best denigrated as being humourless, pedantic and told to "get a life".

I WILL ask most people to consider editing if I think something has or will offend and generally they understand my reasons for asking, but with some people I am afraid I wouldn't risk the fallout.

to be fair Rose, IF I was asked and given time to respond, I would like amend/delete as necessary........but as you say RR'ing IS anonymous......

And entitles you to become a member of a very Elite Club. :-D :-D :-D ;-)

I'm not saying you wouldn't do so if asked Bob, most people will and with good grace, but not all will, nor forgive the person for asking, and it can make it very uncomfortable when one has asked politely only to be rebuffed or publicly/privately abused :-)

edit for the record I don't often report, but I have no problem doing so if I think it's the right thing to do, usually because I know the offending post has been 'deliberate' and that it will be a cold day in hell before the OP removes it willingly :-D

Whoever reported will be smugly smiling Barbara.. so don't give them any satisfaction by leaving..
