Some pedestrians confuse Pelican Crossings (push a button) with a Zebra Crossing (pedestrian has priority......as long as the vehicle has time to stop before they step into the road)

One such person was lucky I wasn't travelling fast, as was the car behind who avoided bashing into me. Even other pedestrians stared in amazement at her!

The push buttons at traffic lights junctions/crossings only, in my opinion, give the pedestrian a feeling of control. In reality the little green man only appears because it's linked to the traffic flow. There may be exceptions, but not in our local towns.

Nameless one, they,re probably Colour blind Or don,t like tha colours :-D apart from the fact they disagree with the rules of the road or should that be the pavements( that's where most of the cycle.time a few of them,if not all were prosecuted for this. :-(

Is that the crossing beeping or the car? :-S

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 12 Jan 2015 12:28

Yes I do feel soo guilty if I push the button and then there is a big break the traffic flow, I cross and then hear the beeping and a car having to stop! :-(

It is their inability to understand traffic lights that I was commenting on.

Ah yes - cyclists. The cause of all our transport & wellbeing problems.

You lucky lot! None of you have cyclists in your area ;-)

if the light is red, you(the driver) stops.....red and amber stop.........if its is flashing amber and no one on the crossing, you can proceed

I would say an emphatic "No"

Bobtanian Report 11 Jan 2015 22:32

Dizzi, if you are still crossing while the lights start to flash then you still have "Right of way!"

Dermot

Dermot Report 11 Jan 2015 19:36

Car drivers are as keen to avoid knocking down innocent pedestrians as pedestrians are to avoid such collisions. I think!

Let both ‘protagonists’ work sensibly together for the mutual enjoyment of our busy roads.

The answer to your heading Elizabeth, is "where the hell did that come from?""

I usually cross if the road if it seems clear - as far as I know, pedestrians are always within the criminal law whatever they do, with the possible exception being motorways?

happy days

we always wait for the green man now as hubby shuffles very slowly across the road .

The light often goes out too before he has made it across

I hate it when you have to stand in the rain waiting for ages for the green man. It should be much quicker to stop the traffic.

Not sure why some unfortunate individual was killed while allegedly walking along the M25.

I always wait because I used to get angry at all those running across the road against the lights when I was teaching my children how to cross a road. :-(

As an old'un with a reasonable sense of anticipation of traffic movement, I on my own would make my way across if the volume of traffic is low. however if others are with me, I'd use the buttons, and wait for the lights......

as a motorist,.it DOES annoy me if someone pushes the button, and then makes their way across, thus causing the traffic to stop at an empty crossing......
