Just checked my credits.
The credit Top Up was on auto-renewal :-0

Apparently, I bought 210 credits on 22.8.10 - which is odd because the maximum you can buy at any one time is 200 - and I've never bought any.
They were/are due to expire on 01.01.0001 :-S

A glitch, methinks!

I have paid £8.96 for 6 months. My top up credits box is ticked automatically but apart from credits I purchased and the free credits I received because a glitch in the service I have never been given any credits on renewal of subs.I have been a member since 2008, so myself and many more members have been short changed according to the ad on the select a renewal package
This was GRs reply to my query, but yourself and other posts contradict this statement

to me
Dear Brian

Thank you for your e mail.

The 50 free credits is an introductory offer only I am afraid and is not available every time that you renew your subscription.

What loyalty discount did you get Drummo? My subs seem to have gone up a lot this time £17 something for the year.

Just noticed under 'my account' and then credit details that there is an 'automatic credit top up' option you have to choose. Might be worth checking if you have done that if you didn't get credits?

BeverleyW Report 13 Jan 2015 19:21

I autorenewed (standard member) recently and got 50 credits.
Actually on the date of renewal I had 10 unused credits. These disappeared. I mailed support and got them reinstated along with the 50 new ones making a total of 60.

surely this ad contravenes the trade description act
And going by the last 3 posts credits are given out like a lottery as some get them with auto renewal and some who let their subs lapse get them on renewal and still get their loyalty discount

I auto renewed annual standard membership a week ago and got 50 credits. I can't remember being given them previous years.

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 13 Jan 2015 13:54

Det...that's probably why I got credits then. I decided that I would not renew, this time, I joined in 2003, and cancelled the auto renew. I then had a change of heart and reinstated the auto renew and received 50 credits.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 13 Jan 2015 12:38

Try unchecking the auto-renewal. Allow the sub to lapse for a few hours/a day then renew. You'll still get any loyalty discount that is going.

I had to do that to take advantage of a discount code that was doing the rounds before Christmas and - hey presto - 50 credits.

I have just received an email from the Genes support team stating the 50 credits are an introduction only offer and not on renewal of subs. Can anyone tell me where it says that

drummo

drummo Report 13 Jan 2015 08:58

Good luck to you for getting your credits. I have just renewed my standard subscription for 6 months and received no credits.I wonder if it is only an offer for annual renewal, if so that should be stated on the advertising page so there would be no misunderstanding and could even tempt more annual renewals

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 13 Jan 2015 08:13

I renewed on the 8th of this month, 5 days ago, and after reading this post I checked my credits. I have been given 50 credits which have a years life. GR never told me this so thanks for your post. I have an annual standard membership.

I'll try and use a credit later there is always a chance they don't actually work.

VAT ? My concern is about the non distribution of free credits offered on renewal of membership.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 12 Jan 2015 14:34

Under revised EU VAT law applying from 1.1.2015 VAT must now be levied at the rate applicable in the user country eg Spain not the web site. Small biz. have until June 2015 to comply but that would not apply to any part of DCT Family History group.

Sales tax should not be levied on non-EU members.

GR has been asked about the credits mystery - http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1343453?page=1 - and GR's response was
"it is due to a bug in the site of which the technical people are aware.".

Where is the info relating to free credis on renewal?

My standard membership was auto renewed on 15 Dec 2014.
No free credits came with it?

Island

Island Report 12 Jan 2015 11:48

Drummo, I assumed the 30 for 27/10/2011 - 27/04/2013 were free credits awarded to many members when the site was mostly inaccessible for a few days. Otherwise it seems odd that the dates are the same as yours.
