And we had to cover our baskets with CLEAN checked tea towels :-D :-D ;-) ;-)

I nagged my dear old Mum to buy me a new bag for school in the Second Year.

It was from Marks and Sparks, a shoulder bag with tiny black and white checks on it.

I coloured in some of the white checks so that one side read

PAUL and GEORGE

and t'other read

JOHN and RINGO

strangely enough she was not very amused!

When I was at Secondary Modern (yes!) it was fashionable to take your stuff to school in a canvas haversack, like workmen used :-D :-D :-D

We used to customise them with paint, badges and slogans :-D :-D ;-)
