There is a butchers in the nearest town that does Savoury Ducks but no where near as good and these are just solid lumps of meat which they shouldn't be.

I have a good mind to take him the old recipe....

I used to love the Ambrosia creamed rice, which you can still get and liked Gypsy Creams (I´d forgotten about them).

I would miss Woolworths if I still lived in the UK but I had got used to it not being around.Mind you when I was back in Sheffield I fell in love with that B&M store, so that would do me ;-)

Okay I have wracked my brains and I can´t think of anything I miss that I can´t get now :-) Easily pleased eh ? ;-)

Are savoury ducks the same as faggots? There are any number of independent butchers making and selling their own faggots even in the south of England. Yummy.

C&A are still going. They closed all their UK shops; but still have stores in Europe. ;-)

When Woolies went bust, somebody bought out the company name, etc and used it as the basis for an online retailer. I don't think it's the same though. ;-)

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 19 Feb 2015 20:21

That's spooky - I was just thinking of Kunzle cakes - weren't they called Showboats? Yummy - sweet and sickly maybe but a bit posh for a special occasion.

Huntley and Palmer's breakfast biscuits. They were square, with rounded corners, and crispy.

Also what we called Boracic Ointment. Actually ointment of boric acid - looked like lip salve, but was brilliant for chapped lips.

You can't get sago at all now. What the Asian retailers sell as pearl sago is really tapioca.

Minstrels in their previous incarnation, (were they called Treats?) came in three different styles.

There were the chocolate ones, better were the peanut ones and totally blissful were the caramel ones! Wouldn't say no to a packet of those again!

Bournvita. Can you still get that?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 20 Feb 2015 01:55

You can get Bournvita online :-D

I miss the enthusiasm and 's*d it' attitude of my youth. :-(
But am determined to rekindle it as a 'S*d it' attitude of a bolshy old bag :-D
