Will do, Liz, when I get back home.

Currently 'enjoying' a couple of days in Albany. After a long and tiring journey through the fire ravaged State Forests, we have now experienced the breaking of the drought (at least for Albany) with a ferocious thunderstorm and torrential rain! :-|

The WiFi connection at our hotel is not very stable.

Tomorrow, we will be returning home via the most direct route we can find!

Please say HI from me Allan, when you next contact Janey. I liked her a lot.

Strange (not really) that JaneyCanuck should be mentioned.

Janey was of considerable help, not just with the genealogy aspect of my search for my grandfather, but also in putting me in touch with various people in Canada with respect to some early sketches (c mid-19th century) in my possession. These were of a Fort in the Toronto area.

Some of the sketches were eventually published in a bock titled 'Stanley Barracks' by Aldona Sendzikas.

I'm still in touch with Janey, who is continuing her much appreciated help in tracing my Mortimer line

I agree, Errol!

she also didn't suffer fools gladly :-D

Ms Canuck was much maligned because she often said what others thought. She was - still is - a genius.

Guinever ...............

I also liked JaneyC!

......... and I loved the way she could think outside the box when faced with a tricky genealogy question .............. and come up with the right answer :-)

i must admit I was flabbergasted when I was accused of being her under another name :-)

Janey didn't take any prisoners, did she? I liked her. And she certainly knew her stuff about genealogy.

Iris 13???? :-D

Sylvia, Ah yes Janey Canuck, fell out with her a few times :-D :-D As did many people. Clever she was, diplomatic she wasn't.

Loved the days of Colin in Hampshire, Granddad Jim, also from gosport Hampshire, really lots of laughs. (ok scraps as well) but wasn't it so much more 'alive' than today?

I joined on the day after my birthday in 2011; but didn't start posting until April 2012.

I got criticised for my first post because I had posted on an old thread. That nearly put me off posting again. I was trying to help. Some thanks I got for that! :-P

I joined in 2001.before it was genes reunited

Took a long time to post on any chat posts got put off by some of the threads that turned . And the Friday night squabbles

I waffle with too much info too so loads of posting would be done by the time I had formulated any responses

My first venture was looking for help for mums father's side , this was way before FreeBMD had up to date info for the 1920. ,s onwards and I didnt have subs to other sites

My first timid request was taken up by Jess Bow Bobbing DooDah Dog ( or some such name !)who was a whizz then with census and bmds

It's just coming round to renewal time for me from first joining up in 2005. I think I found the General/Chat boards etc in about May of that year, with my first thread about breaking the bed and buying a new one

I have made some lovely friends since then

I joined in 2004, started my tree, looked on the Ancestor's Board, and was posting on there within a couple of days

I was helping within a couple of weeks .............. those were the days when someone posted a request, but all replies had to be sent via pm

I looked on General and Chat a few weeks later ................ hated what I saw, so never posted.

I did post on one of those two about 2 years later (2006-ish), and ended up supporting JaneyCanuck (remember her?) on a thread against someone who knew sweet fanny adam about Canada.

Within an hour, I was accused of being "that nasty sylvia under another name" :-S and then I was accused of being JaneyC under another name. Several of my posts were RR'd.

I returned to the Board about 2 days later, and got in the middle of a huge row ...........................

I didn't post again on General or Chat until about 2008, I just kept well away :-)

Allan

Allan Report 23 Feb 2015 22:32

I joined GR in 2007.

My first posts were on the Ancestors Board as I was trying to find my grandfather, Clifford.

I also posted about my paternal grandmother's family, the Coe's.

I received fantastic help, much of which is still on-going.

It was a while before I posted on General or chat as I felt a bit of an 'outsider' but once I did......there was no stopping me.

Not even the various RR's that I've had have put me off ;-) :-D :-D

I watched for a couple of weeks after joining in 2003 then posted on the genealogy board. Watched General for a while longer because there was a huge row going on.

Posted on there when it was over.

AnninGlos Report 23 Feb 2015 21:36

More or less straight away in 2003 but didn't go on chat at first, wasn't there a general board as well as chat?
