Well OH says it's a sack!

I did downsize but it was no good. I crammed it all into the smaller bag and then after 2 months the strap broke. So went back to the sack!

Just bear in mind that if you carry appointment letters with you they have your home address on and really it's best to just carry them on the day of your appointment, preferably not in your handbag. Something with your address on is manna to a thief if they get your handbag. Not only will they have your keys, they will also know the address of the door they fit!

I have even heard of a bag being stolen many miles from where the person lived, but by the time they got home they had been robbed! A gang had obviously got contacts in the area of the home address too.:-(

I don't use a handbag or a watch.

Usually I just put my cash-card in my pocket. If I am Going out on my own I might take my mobile phone.

Hi Elizabeth :-) <3

I suppose it depends on where I am going!

I will take a look in my every day handbag!....

It's new, so I am still keeping it tidy (sort of :-D)

At the moment..

Purse; clear pencil case (with pens, pencils, rubber, small ruler, 2 magnifiers, cloth tape measure, highlighter) ; little notebook; tissues; phone (if not on my pocket) Keys; emergency money in zipped compartment.
Reading Glasses

A METAL MEASURING TAPE :-D :-D
Because my downstairs rooms are tiny, and I am in the process of looking for suitable furniture.
A swatch of my 3 piece that is in my parlour (for colour matching)

If I'm going somewhere other than local shops, a make-up bag with lippy, eyeshadow and mascara; Hairbrush; If I'm going somewhere special, a small hairspray.

Oh, and I have a pretty Key-ring hanging for decoration on my bag.

I was just thinking of handbag contents of years gone by, when the children were young the bag contained all sorts, toys wet wipes, biscuits, and other such bribes :-)

in the early 80s when I was out clubbing the hair stayed in place with a certain brand of "rock hard" hair spray. The make up, lots of back mascara in several coats stayed in place, money would be deposited in an emergany place about my person and key and contact lens case deposited on the other half :-D

I no longer carry a bag. I found that the bigger the bag I owned the more rubbish I carried. Now when I go out I take my phone (which is rarely turned on!) and my car keys. My phone case has card holder slots, so I keep a 20. in there.

I do own 3 very large bags which if I need will be used. They will hold either a large laptop or tablet and or Kindle along with all the other detritus of my life.

But the freedom of no bag and no watch is great!!

:-D

One important item in my handbag is a telescopic back scatcher. It is only 8" long but expands to twice that. My main reason for carrying it is that on several occasions in the supermarket I have been unable to reach what I want on the top shelf, but with this I can manage to get the item to come to the front of the shelf.

Other items in the handbag vary from time to time.

My daughter once asked me if I ever clean my handbags? Apparently she had read something about the amount of germs which can lurk both inside and outside of said items. Having slight OCD in matters like this, she does wipe out her bags and also cleans her purse, phone and keys.

Although I use handbags, I always follow some advice I once saw and, when shopping in town, I keep my phone in my hand (with strap round wrist), my keys in a pocket and just my purse in my bag. This is so that, if the handbag gets snatched, you still have your door/car keys on you.

I was also advised - by a very nice fireman - to always take my phone and car keys to bed at night. If there is a fire, you can call them without leaving the room and, if there is a burglary, your car keys are with you and it seems you can sound the alarm from them.........not sure about that one though.

I need one for my locker at work and they lady said no sorry
I said hang on a minute and out of my bag

and gave it to the lady wanting one
the shop assistant said do you have a nail file in that Mary Poppins bag Joy
and I said funny you should ask that and I handed her one

DH calls my handbag The Tardis. He's always amazed at what fits!

I just checked..........

wallet
small tin of mints
small pkt tissues
lip conditioner
small notebook with pen stuck at the side
keys on a chain with a small torch
folding umbrella in a plastic bag
1 or 2 folded shopping bags

credit cards etc in a folder....... I take that when I go shopping, it usually stays at home.

and when we go out....... DH's ciggies & a lighter

I used to carry lots more..... realised I never used the stuff, so had a major cleanout of handbags years ago. example........ why did I carry a comb? fingers work just as well when you have mad curly hair.

Joy ~ you could survive a siege with your handbag :-)
