I, too, have found funeral directors very helpful.

Sending hugs and my condolences on your sad loss.

When I found myself in a similar situation to the one you are in now, I was very pleasantly relieved to find that the funeral director gave me a lot of helpful advice and information, taking a good deal of worry off my shoulders. So my advice to you would be to contact them as soon as possible....they explain absolutely everything about the funeral, payment options etc.and are in no hurry whatsoever for their payment, they do understand it can take a long time to sort out.

My council website showed a leaflet, which I could download, but I thought I would get a hard copy from them for Mum. No they do not them only online. Tough if you do not use a computer.

So sorry to hear about your sister Maureen, even though it was expected it is still a sad time for you, made worse by all the paperwork etc needing doing. I hope you can find the strength to plough your way through it all. I hope that your Mum is able to cope with it as well as you say she is confused at times. <3 <3

Off to the house tomorrow to see what paperwork I can find.

Not taking Mum as Janis died in the room where I will find all the documents as I thought she would get upset.

Mum has been a bit confused lately and she will ask twice in 10 mins what day is it. She could not understand on Monday why we were still at the house hours after the visit from the doctor but we were waiting for the undertakers. That is why I have to deal with everything.

So sorry to hear this. My sympathies to you and your family.

As Sue says don't get a solicitor at this stage. They are expensive and you may well not need one until you come to sell the house.

Just do the absolute essentials for now. You will have time to deal with everything else after the funeral.

Re. Kay's suggestion of getting photocopies of death certificate. I found nearly every organisation insisted on an original registrar's certificate and not a photocopy but they do generally return the cert. so you can use it again.

The last time I had to deal with this sort of thing I gave the funeral bills to the bank and they paid them from the deceased's account. Provided your sister has funds in her account I am sure they will do the same for her.

Don't forget in all the hassle to look after yourself. Give yourself time to grieve. <3

There's not really any need to incur the extra expense of buying extra copies of the death cert. Ordinary photocopies cannot normally be accepted unless they are certified copies of the original. Therefore you can photocopy the original and get an official to certify on them that they are true copies. This link shows you a list of the officials that can do this for you like e.g. a bank or building society member of staff.

If you are visiting any organisations that need a death cert, eg DWP, council, mortgage lender, they can do their own certified copy while you wait and then hand the original death cert back to you.

I would write lists of what you have to remember to do while your head is everywhere at the moment.
