My opinion would be to say no to surgery unless of course he has unbearable pain from the gallstones. I have been told that most people over a certain age have gallstones and most people live with them with only an occasional bout of sickness. My mother was diagnosed with them but the doctor didn't want to operate because of her very serious heart problems, he thought she might not survive the anaesthetic. Well, she lived with her gallstones and had no problems with them. She died many years later during heart surgery. |

Surgery ? Gallstones even quite large ones can be removed using shock waves. |

I had mine removed by keyhole surgery and it is a much less invasive operation then it used to be so he may well not be under the anaesthetic for too long...the pain of gallstones is unbearable so he may well be better off having surgery when he reaches that stage :-) |

I did think that things would be best left as they are for now, Shirley, so long as hubby and you can cope with his nausea etc. |

Well, Shirley. His life won't get any better and neither will the gallstones. |

When I had gall stones 18 years ago.... The sickness was triggered by what I ate..... Sausages was the main culprit |

Shirley,,,I go along with the others ...if he is coping with it leave it be...maybe try some low fat food as Jax suggests...but it depends whether he tells you when he is in pain! |
