Its now a Month since my Full Knee Replacement Operation .
I'm now the proud owner of a Stainless steel and plastic knee .
And I'm able to walk very slow .
But the Physio said I must still use my crutch's when walking outdoors ,or a least one as I have been able to walk unaided In the the house and up and down the stairs .
The knee Is still stiff and flexing a little more each day , and I have to do my leg /knee repetitions exercises every day
. Also carry on Ice packing routinely . I am also cutting down on the Painkillers I.E .
Co-codamol as they can have an adverse affect on your stomach .
So I'm very pleased with my progress . hope to be able to drive in a couple of weeks and hopefully get out walking hiking and Cycling again . Sometime In June .

It does sound as if you are progressing really well. If you have access to a hydrotherapy pool or even hot-tub once your wound has healed, it can be really beneficial to exercise in one.

Cycling movements in the water are really good as they encourage plenty of flexion which will be invaluable especially when you wish to return to cycling.

Use walking poles when out on uneven grass, it just helps to steady you and avoids a potential trip.

Good luck.

Well done and keep up the good work. I had my left knee done 7 years ago and the right one 6 months later. Unfortunately for me I got an infection in the first knee which meant I had quite a lot of trouble with it (hospital stay, another operation and a wound that had to be left open and packed for 2 months) so that one isn't as good as it could have been but the other one is great.

Bio oil is really good for your scar too.

Hubby was driving about 6 weeks after his knee ops.

Update . Week 10 .
Went out for a ramble on Wednesday to test out the Knee .
Walked around the Lovely Village of Style Cheshire across fields and lanes to a viewing area for Manchester Airport , to checkout Aircraft .
Could hardly see through mist and haze . As It had been raining all day .
Then It got heavier and poured down .
Lucky I had put on all my waterproofs and boots .As I love walking and hiking Its one of my hobbies . Especially long distance . Even though the conditions were wet , It was lovely to be out In the fresh air ,and getting good exercise . My knee was fine' NO PAIN' . This Is the bonus of the operation . "The Surgeon said the Op would stop the pain ". I decided to stride out on the way back and did very well . I was very very pleased as I covered 5 miles . And felt very good for my efforts . :-D <3

You are one of the lucky ones. I had mine done last October and I still get swelling and some pain though nowhere near as bad as it was. I still cannot bend it properly and cannot walk very far as it causes me to get pains in my hips. Still it could be worse ;-) :-D :-D :-D

Anthony Report 21 Jun 2015 19:37

LaGooner
Very sorry you are suffering with problems .
Have you tried Ice packing the swelling . Also massaging the knee .
The Physio are always telling me to do this .
Also have you spoken to the Surgeon about all your symptoms .

LaGooner Report 21 Jun 2015 22:58

I do or have done all of those things. Consultant has said that it may well take a year to improve . Still grinning and bearing it and thinking there are a lot of people with more serious complaints than me ;-) :-D :-D :-D

I must have been one of the fortunate people to have knee replacement surgery.
I had the operation in March 2014 and suffered no pain or swelling. Within 3 months
I could walk without the aid of crutches and walking sticks and I put it down to persevering with exercises after the physios had put me through all the tests.
I visited the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle this year for the annual check-up and I passed all the tests with flying colours and was told I don't need to return for another 4 years.

GP most people have no problems but even going for physio and doing the exercises at home are not improving it very much. I am one of the unfortunate few that have problems according to my consultant :-|. Never mind worse things happen at sea as the saying goes ;-) :-D :-D.

That's amazing. I'm unable to bend my knee enough to turn the pedals on a bike properly.. and a five mile walk.

Well done :-D
