Sounds as though it might be worth investigating further. Most auction houses will do a free valuation for you, and it could be your lucky day. :-) :-) :-)

I went to a lecture about Sir John Franklin and argued with the lecturer about something.

He told me the only place to verifythe point was a book I would never see because all the copies of it were on a pallet in a warehouse that was bombed in the war and very few copies escaped.

As it happened, the only reason I was interested in Sir John Franklin was because I had read an old book I must have acquired at a jumble sale.

Only the very same book.

I don't know what it is worth but I had been very close to throwing it away unread.

In the 1960's OH had to give a talk to the other students on his course about public transport in the UK. We lived in London at the time, so he went and bought some of the posters that used to be on stations and in train carriages, to advertise their journeys. They cost 19/6 each. After the lecture we put the posters back in the cardboard tube in the attic.

About 20 years ago, we were watching the Antiques Roadshow and Paul Atterbury was valuing British Rail posters in the high hundreds!!!

So I dug ours out, took them to Christies in Glasgow, where they were sent to London and three of them were put in a sale of Railway Memorabilia. In due course OH got a cheque for just under £2000.00 :-) :-) :-)

Not bad for an outlay of £3.00!

I bought a picture in a jumble sale for £2.50, about 20 years ago, purely for the frame.
I 'put it away' with all the other frames I had - at the time I intended framing some old posters and postcards I had. They stayed 'put away' until about 5 years ago, when I had a clear out.
I took out the £2.50 picture, noticed a signature and looked it up online.
It's only a Rene Le Forestier! Not worth much - about £250, but still, a good profit when/if I come to sell it !!

Oh - and a testament to procrastination - I could have removed the painting, thrown it away, and used the frame :-0

I have just sold my kernackerooned old phone.
I thought it was just a cheap old Blackberry phone but apparently because it is a limited edition I got over a hundred quid for it!

Have you ever found something you thought was worthless or didn't mean anything to you was actually worth a bit of cash?
