Our darling Desmond (cat) has died.

He was fourteen and grey so we were lucky to have him this long and he died in his sleep.

He is going in the back garden I hope, in the spot where he used to like to lie in the sun and where the trap was that I caught him in.

There will be a bit of Daddy in with him too I think. Well, Daddy might still have his wheelchair and you never know when you might need another ride do you?

Ah bless him . You did say he was getting frail and a bit forgetful in his toiletting

Sorry to see he has passed over but it was in his sleep which is a blessing .

We had to make the horrible decision to have our old girl put to sleep last july and I so wanted her to make her own time and pass in her sleep .

Poor Desmond , but he had a happy life with you and will leave you with happy memories of him

Really sorry to hear about Desmond and sad for you, but it's good that he went peacefully in his sleep and in his own home.

He was loved and had a happy life with you. RIP Desmond

So sorry to hear about Desmond, Sharron. <3

It was a blessing that he spared you that heartbreaking decision that many of us cat owners have to face <3

I'm so sorry you have lost him,but glad that he went peacefully.

I still miss Milo, who we lost at the age of 6 a couple of years ago. He had a happy little life, but it was just too short, and left me and his littermate/ best buddy devastated.

As Uzzi says, remember the good times, and it's lovely you can give him his favourite spot in the garden.

The catch 22 is, it was often the cats that got me through the bad times, but what do you do when the bad time is the loss of the cat?

Sorry about the loss of Desmond. As said in this thread it's a peaceful end.

My OH was away working when our dog had a stroke, the vet found he'd suffered brain damage so I had to make the decision to end his life. I told my husband that evening when he phoned. OH told his 2 work mates who were with him, they were friends who knew our dog. There were 3 men crying into their evening meals.

Our cats and dogs become part of our family and their loss is felt as a loss in the family. It hurts when they die but we have the memories. Desmond went peacefully at a good age after a happy life that you gave him Sharron.

Cherish the memories, Desmond will be in his favourite spot what more could he ask for? <3 <3 <3

Oh Sharron, I am sorry Desmond has gone to be with Fred. I know you will all miss him but knowing how much you did for him to have a comfortable life must give you some comfort.

I am sure you will sense him around you outside when the sun shines, still in his favourite spot.

Rest in peace now, Desmond

I am very sorry to read about your Desmond's passing. I know how it feels to loose a beloved pet, so can sympathize with you. After vowing never to have a cat again, I now have a beautiful ginger tom.
Your Desmond obviously had a good life with you, was much loved and had a peaceful end.
Take care. Eileen x

When I relayed to you the information I had been given the cat was not actually dead.

I don't know if OH doesn't quite understand the concept of dead, he bloody soon will if he is not careful, but Mond actually died last evening.

He was lying on the wet-room floor on a towel when I went down so I had him on my lap for a while lying on the big cushion we called the cussy puddler. He was deeply asleep and dreaming a bit but we had a few lat tickles and strokes and I got some water into his mouth with one of Fred's old syringes. Then we lay the cushion on the floor and Desmond stayed in the same position.

We had to go out for a couple of hours last evening and he was dead in the same position, looking very peaceful and comfortable when we came home.

I know I shouldn't - but your comments about your OH made me laugh.

It's nice that you had some last cuddles and tickles with Desmond.
Chances are, he waited until you weren't around to pass wherever cats pass to <3

and it's lovely that he went naturally, in the place where he was loved.

He is in the garden now, with a bit of his daddy, where he like to lie.

I think I will leave the front door open with a plate of cat meat inside now. There is black pussy who comes for food and there is tabby pussy. Round the back there is a black one with a bit of white.

Now, didn't I always say I was going to have a goldfish next time.
