He is in trouble for using gardening terms which have been used for many many years.

World has gone barmy

Kense

Kense Report 24 Jun 2015 15:50

He isn't in trouble. It is the BBC who are looking ridiculous for apologising for it.

It amused me that the other morning on Breakfast they were interviewing Ricardo Chavira about the play he is appearing in. However they couldn't say what the play was called because the title contained a word that was too rude for morning TV.

AnnCardiff Report 24 Jun 2015 19:00

so what were these gardening terms then :-S

Island

Island Report 24 Jun 2015 19:40

Bastard trenching, Ann.

It's a legitimate gardening term - just in case some narrow minded itchy finger is hovering.

would be interested to know how far back the term Bastard trenching goes.

Have heard of the surname though.

Havent any problem with it, but wonder if it was used purposefully to stir things up. That seems the name of the game at the moment.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And before you reach for the RR - several gardening terms were listed in paper which had been mentioned on/in media - one which caught my eye was - sticky willy - also known as goose grass.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 25 Jun 2015 13:04

Very stupid but then many of the presenters are there for their looks and not what's between their ears.

Was Alan deliberately trying to upset things - who knows and I haven't seen it. It's not him people are laughing at though.

I've used a bastard file to trim plaster models when I worked as a dental nurse. I made either plaster of Paris, or a harder plaster dental models, according to what they were required for. I had to trim the bases down and neaten the edges.

I knew the file's name because it was on the inventory (RAF).

They allow all kinds of language on TV these days yet get upset when someone uses the known name for something. :-S
