my wifes grandmother apears to have been born in the workhouse in liverpool were it say liverpool workhouse the letters u-s-d appear can anyone tell me what they meen thanks Paul |

She may have been in the workhouse infirmary rather than the workhouse itself as this was frequently the only medical help available, if she had a difficult birth. |

My husband's aunts and uncles were in and out of the local workhouse the early years of their lives. Their parents weren't and other than on 1 occasion went individually. Once 2 of the girls were in together. They were discharged after a few days to their parents. One, the eldest son, was sent off to a hospital some distance away. We know he had heart trouble from a child until he died of the problem aged 67. |
