Why pontificate when a simple 'effing get on with it' will suffce? :-S

One good thing about having served in the armed forces is that people get a bit less precious about basic Anglo Saxon after a regular blast from petty officers and sgt majors. Even back in the olden days 1930s - 1960s it was wildly unlikely that the gentlemen of the press served a term always suffering from flat feet, poor vision, to tall, to short etc.

Perhaps he was a) speaking on his own behalf or b) speaking on behalf of himself and the others who were patiently waiting and feeling the heat etc.

We all know what photographers are taking photos at public public functions. At our daughter' wedding some years ago - ours decided to take a photo of the bride with the two mothers - he moved and pushed us and OH then recognised a squeal 'Betty (the other mother) he just lifted and moved my leg'.

Yep, I like Prince William's face too, he knows what his grandpa is like. But Prince Philip's is the best, boy is he annoyed.

Yes, what he said might not of been 'proper' but who cares, I'm sure he was just saying what everybody was thinking, and at 94 he can get away with it. :-D :-P

When I was at primary school, very early sixties, I can remember a boy was heard swearing in the playground and a teacher telling him that he should follow the example of Prince Phillip.

Clearly he was doing just that.

I just wonder if your reactions would be the same if it was a teenage boy swearing in front of Prince Phillip.

If this language was used on here, how many of you would press the RR?

Hearing a teenager using that language would come as no surprise.
As for using it on here, it would very probably be rapidly RRd as it´s against the terms & conditions.

I feel I have a duty to register my disgust & abhorrence on a topic that irks me greatly - that is the amount of swearing heard all around the place nowadays, more often than not involving disaffected youngsters with occasional inputs by a few old codgers awaiting their turn to be put out to grass.

It saddens me that so many seem to regard loud swearing in public as wholly acceptable & almost as some sort of rite of passage simply to look cool in the presence of their peers. It is usually the loudest & the noisiest who tend to get everybody's attention, as demonstrated the other day by the pompous PP.

Shouting out many profanities, some of which they would probably not be able to spell, if asked, effectively reinforces that goal.
