Had one on Friday :-(

It took an hour.

When it was over, I couldn't move :-( The staff had to help me sit up and get off the table. A bit scary.

I'm in so much pain I'm ready to scream. I'm taking 8 pain-relief tablets a day (got rid of the ones that sent me off the planet) and they're only taking the edge off the pain. It's so bad I'm vomiting!

I'm at the end of my rope and I've tied a knot.

Oh Scozz, I am sorry you are having such a bad time. How long till you get results of scan and hopefully better pain relief?

I guess if you are vomiting you might not have time to absorb the pain relief properly, a vicious circle.

Hope you can manage to get some rest.

I have trochanteric bursitis in my right hip. First diagnosed over 13 years ago! It's got worse in the last five years, I take too many anti-inflammatories & painkillers.

It feels like there's a red hot poker stuck in my hip.

The specialist sent me to the physio, but the exercises I was told to do made it even worse. So frustrating..... what part of "that causes pain" don't they understand????

The results should be with my specialist, but they're not with my GP, even though the Xray place was supposed to email them yesterday.

I want to see the GP, to see if he thinks it's worthwhile making an earlier appointment with the specialist (my next appointment is 20 August).

Most of us look at our xrays, even though we don't have a clue what we're looking at. I had a look.......... on several of them, there's a cross-hatched mark over lots of areas... no idea what that means.

The pain relief I'm taking is strong... doc says the next step up is narcotics, and I don't want to go there!

I spent yesterday in bed. Today I'm trying to cope with a huge pile of washing... it's going in the dryer, I don't have the energy to hang it outside.

Forgot to say......... I've had at least three cortisone injections, and they didn't help.

I thought they did help..... until the local anasthetic wore off :-(

Can you have a replacement hip?

Sorry that you are in so much pain, can only hope for you that a solution can be found.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 14 Jul 2015 10:52

AnninGlos ! there's nothing wrong with the hip bones, it's the bursa that's inflamed.

This is what I get for keeping fit in my younger days!

I 'phoned the Medical Centre........... and was asked if the Xray people were sending the info by email or download :-S How am I supposed to know???? They suggested 'phoning the xray place.

Phoned the xray place......... they said it had been sent, but would resend it.

Waited an hour...... 'phoned the medical centre again. Still not there.

Phoned the xray place again... and they said they would fax it :-S

I'm bewildered......... why do I have to do this? Why can't the medical centre staff?

Haven't heard a thing.

Not impressed.

Would a TENS machine help with the pain?

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tens/pages/introduction.aspx

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 14 Jul 2015 13:06

Have tried a tens machine, didn't help much.... and an ultra-sound thingie, that didn't help much either.

Also tried............ physio, naturopath, cupping, acupuncture, dry needling, loads of chemicals from the pharmacy, cortisone injections, fish oil, krill oil, green lipped mussels, rose hip oil, Chinese medications (including one that was put in a dish on my belly, set fire to, and it burned me!.... I have a scar above my navel that looks like I've had a belly-piercing)

etc
etc
etc

I've done exercises........... I used to do Pilates, but had to stop because I couldn't get on the floor & back up without help!

Oh dear that all sounds so awful Lady Scozz, I do feel very sorry for you and hope that the MRI scan results will be seen by the Specialist/GP and somebody can get you the help and pain relief you need to make you as comfortable as you can be soon.

Just wondered if you have a Pain Management Clinic nearby? Perhaps your GP could refer you so that you will have advice and supportive treatment you badly need.

Andysmum Report 14 Jul 2015 16:31

I have just been googling about this, as I had never heard of it.

Most of the articles suggest the various things you have tried, and all end up by saying that surgery can be used as a last resort. Not replacement hip surgery, but draining or removing the bursa. It sounds worth considering in your case.

This is the last paragraph of one of the articles. I don't understand the medical stuff, but your GP would.

Surgical intervention may be necessary in refractory cases. Multiple surgical options for persistent trochanteric bursitis include bursectomy, longitudinal release of the iliotibial band, proximal or distal Z-plasty, osteotomy and repair of gluteus medius tears.

I'm going to "play" with the pain meds.

I've been waking up during the night (between 2 and 3 am) for ages, because of the hip.

Yesterday I took 6 of the usual meds...... and when I woke up at 2.30 I took 2 of the bombs (much stronger). Got back to sleep and woke up at 10.30!

That's another problem, I've had broken sleep for months, always feel tired.

Haven't heard from the Medical Centre yet.

It's now Thursday, 6.45pm

I've had no contact from the medical centre.

:-(

If I don't hear anything tomorrow, I'm getting puggled tomorrow night. :-D It won't make the pain go away, but I won't care :-D :-D
