Ann, I have seen a few times recently on FB a message from friends saying 'if you get a friend request from me, do not respond, I did not send it' - so it would appear that whatever has happened to them has now happened to you :-(

Just so you know it is not just you lol. Hope you get it all sorted soon :-)

If you click on the lock(top right hand side)

you get "Privacy check up"
in that box you can see an option for
"who can contact me" then
" who can send me friend requests"
click that and you should see
"friends of friends" on a list of options
click that and only friends of friends will be able to
send you a friend request

:-D

Ann, try

log out

(yes, it's very hard to see - dark blue downward arrow at the far right of the blue strip across the top - click it and then 'log out')

then go to log in again and after you type your email address, say you can't remember your password

Facebook will email you a link to make a new password.

What it sounds like is happening is what happens to me, that I described at the bottom of page 1, that is:

Someone used your email address to sign up for facebook, and facebook just let them go ahead and do it without confirming that the email address is actually theirs (by sending a link that they have to click to confirm - which is what any decently operated website does)

is the email address where you are receiving the friends requests the one you use for your own facebook account? because an email address can only be used for one account at a time at facebook

if it isn't, and you log out then try to log in using the email address where you are getting all the mail, and say you have forgotten your password ... then the email you get back, for resetting your password, should take you to the imposter's facebook page.

if it's somebody else using your email address, changing the password will stop them from accessing their facebook account and sending any more friends requests ... but you will continue to get "do you know" mail ... so in fact you can just delete that facebook page altogether then if you are able to log in to it

if someone has somehow accessed your facebook account (which I doubt), changing the password as others have suggested will fix that

have you looked at the facebook profile for the person who is getting all these friends messages?

I'm a lost cause Claire - I have however opted out of receiving messages so that might work - we'll see - really I want nothing to do with facebook at all - I only joined as a favour to a store in Abergavenny where I shop regularly - they wanted someone to go on facebook and give them some praise - which I had no problem doing as it is a great store
