I am trying to trace my farther's ancestors who were born in Ireland in the 1860's could anyone guide me as to how I might trace their birth records? |

There are some records on FMP, have you found the family in the census giving birthplace? |

A lot depends if his ancestors were from the six counties or the south and when they came over the water. Did they spend any time in Scotland? For Ulstermen that was very common and quite a few people who believe they had Irish ancestors were actually Scotsmen who had moved to Ireland. The English themselves did much the same 'cos of work available in Belfast. |

Keith, it may not be related but on the 1851 census image, several lines above the entry for William and Sarah ( just gives Ireland as POB) There is a George Ray also born Ireland but gives the place as Inch. there is an Inch in Kerry and also Clare and Cork ( there may well be others). |

Irish ancestors are really difficult to trace unless you have quite specific information. I came to a halt on two lines of my husband's family because he had Irish ancestors with common Irish names and the only place of birth I could find was just Ireland. I do go back and look again every so often in case new records have been made public but no joy so far. |

Keith...It may help if you use the Find Ancestors board as opposed to General Chat many members like myself probably rarely visit this board..that being said your William was still alive 1891 see below..living with him was Son William John (b Ireland abt 1835-9...which would follow your thoughts on the marriage of Wm and Sarah taking place in Ireland..Wmj is also a widower but two of his sons are living with him.....The family do not seem to have moved from the same area all their time in Cumberland... |
