....with most people however I can't abide pomposity, people who sneer at other people for doing what they enjoy mostly because they feel superior on an intellectual level. Also people who are clever with words and use that to verbally beat people down - not clever just really unpleasant. That is my opinion and you may not agree - that's fine with me.

I agree with you Sue.

We know a man who thinks he is "posh", but he has some filthy habits :-( He loves to correct other people's English, by repeating what they said but using the correct words.

I live in hope that someone will smack him.

Same here Sue, some days it takes me all
my time to keep my mouth shut with some
on this site, so I move on.

The really clever people use words to enrich and inform, not as a weapon to batter others with their intellectual capacity. I use the language as best I can, for my own satisfaction :-)

Rose - you are so right and I could not have said it better.

It's hard not to notice incorrect use when you taught GCE English but it's rude to mention it, unless the incorrect use can cause confusion to a reader.

I do reserve the right to throw burning torches at people who misuse apostrophes, though. :-D

You are clever AnnCardiff - I think some thesaurus bones were found awhile back.

The apostrophe "thing" annoys me too, Gwynne.

My spelling is terrible online,i type quickly and rarely proof read before pressing send lol, i also use text type a lot,

i dont care how people spell as long as i get the jist of what there trying to say,

id much rather someone spell incorrectly and have rubbish grammer, than to go out of there way to be mean and nasty for no reason.
