Anyone know anything about the poppit hearing aid? I should have a proper national health or private one but that is a concession to old age I am reluctant to make. One you can just pop in and pop out, would seem ideal.

Happy days

No wonder old people wrinkle up like cocoons - look what they turn into.

Hubby waited months for NHS ones and then had enormous problems with them irritating his ears and making them sore . They changed the plastic tubing but the new tube was no better and he was told hard luck that's all we do !!

He had to buy private but they cost a fortune . He is pleased with them though and gets free batteries and end pieces for them for 5 years plus they get checked very 6 months to see the condition of them

Don't know about the poppet ones though .guess you get what you pay for . They seem very cheap on googling for them .

I also googled this type of amplifier aid for hearing loss Harry.
Might be worth giving it a go as they do seem to be a very cheap price.

Harry

I'm not sure why you have a relutance to investigating the options of a NHS one.

I have an aid which requires no moulds at all, the 'earpiece' is a very small light and pliable plastic dome, which tucks right into the ear and has been such a help to me.
Why not have a chat with your doctor about referring you to an ENT clinic ?

Thank you folks for your interest. May well be private for me Shirley.

You're right Gwynne. Male pride in my case. As i said, at 82, I'm making too many concessions to old age.. As Kandj says, a poppit seems ideal - if they work.

Best wishes to all Happy days

Think the cheaper ones are just amplifiers i.e. make louder, not much help if the problem is tone range or blurring of sound but if they're that cheap try them first!

I live in Scotland and both my optician and OH's are constantly advertising free hearing tests. Huge posters in their windows, leaflets through the door, letters to existing customers etc.

I don't know about free hearing aids, but the tests certainly are.

If you Google Poppit, one of the sites is the Which Report. You can read it as a temporary member for £1.00. It might be £1.00 well spent, if you are thinking of going private.

My wife thinks I am deaf, I think she doesn't speak very clearly.
