Anyone with suspected Huguenot ancestry might find this site interesting.

Best pie and mash was from Harringtons, Wandsworth Road but now long gone :-(
They still have a branch in Tooting but I have never been....It wouldn't be the same.

I used to go to the High Street every Saturday and know it well, although I hate P & M.

My aged brother-in-law's rellies were silk weavers in West Street, Bethnal Green. They lived in adjacent houses so I assume the weaving loft ran between the houses on the top floor.

These were Jacobs and there were heaps of them :-( still working on these, off and on, for over 8 years.

Thanks for the info Bob. My relatives came from Spitalfields as well and worked in the silk industry but I have hit a brick wall with this line. :-(

The pie and mash shop shown in Derek Jacobi's WDYTYA, Manzi's, in Walthamstow, my cousin used to work in. The silk weaver's house in Spitalfields, is Dennis Severs' House, 18 Folgate St., E1 6BX. It is open to the public, and well worth a visit. Google it for opening times. Some of my ancestors were silk weavers in the area, but I haven't found a connection to the Huegenots.
